In Celebration of

Stephen Vyvyan

May 20, 1941 -  August 13, 2018

Peacefully, on Monday, August 13, 2018, in his 78th year. Steve was the beloved husband of Diane (nee Coles, deceased). He was the loving father of Laura, Margot, and baby Nicole (deceased), father-in-law of John Valliant and Brad Boyd, and loved grandfather of Brandon and Cole Boyd, and Diana, Kathleen and Jacquelyn Valliant. Steve was the beloved big brother of Kathy Cornish, friend and brother-in-law of Roy Cornish, and is remembered fondly by his nephew Jeffrey and niece Jennifer. A proud graduate of the University of Toronto, and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Steve was a teacher and vice principal with the North York Board of Education, and a dedicated principal with the Peel District School Board. Steve was proud of his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserves in his youth, and in later years enjoyed watching baseball, reading, studying history, and spending time with Diane at their cottage in the Kawarthas. The family would like to express their gratitude for the support and care provided by Thornbrook Home Care, Sunrise Senior Living, and the McCall Centre for Continuing Care. A private family interment has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Donations to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children or to the Dorothy Ley Hospice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

Steve was my first principal in Peel and a wonderful mentor and friend. His office was always open to everyone in the school community and he truly cared for all the students in his school! He encouraged everyone’s contributions in every way. Diane and Steve were a very loving, kind and caring couple! Sincere condolences to all their family. He will be remembered fondly.

Very saddened to hear of Steve's passing. We began our teaching careers together at Bayview Jr. High in North York. We shared many great times on our annual weekend "retreat"to Stoco. After 5 years, our paths separated. We reconnected in 1988 when Steve brought me to Peel as a member of his staff. He was a wonderful, colleague and mentor who helped guide me into the administration stream. I was honoured to have him speak at my retirement along with Ray and Ian from the Bayview gang. To his beloved family, my deepest sympathies. Your dad and grampa will be fondly remembered. Rest in Peace, Steve.

Laura and John, Margot and Brad, Kathy and Roy, and families:

We were very sorry to learn of Steve's death. Know that we are thinking of you and send our condolences to you and your families.
Steve was a part of our lives for more than sixty years. We have fond memories of high school and university days with Steve and Diane, as well as many 'get-togethers' over the years with our little group of Etobicoke friends. We shall miss them both.
