In Celebration of

Stephen King Tong Wong

December 3, 1940 -  August 18, 2025

In loving memory, we announce the passing of Stephen King Tong Wong. He passed away peacefully on August 18th, 2025 at Mississauga Trillium Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

He was the loving husband of Suk Fan Wong and proud father of Lisa Wong Boivin and John Matthew Wong. He was also the loving grandfather of Tristan Boivin, father-in-law to Andre Boivin, and godfather to Matthew Wong.

Born in Shanghai, Stephen was a proud Canadian since 1972. After studying in Hong Kong and Taiwan, he came to Canada as a Masters student at the University of Waterloo, studying electrical engineering. After graduating from Waterloo, he worked at Nortel for over 30 years, first as an electrical engineer and then developing its global business. Stephen helped Nortel expand around the world, beginning with the U.S. and Caribbean and later in the Near and Far East. As part of his career, he took his family to live in Istanbul, Turkey and Hong Kong, on overseas assignments. With adventurous spirits the Wong family lived abroad and travelled to Egypt, Greece, Western Europe, and East Asia. These experiences forged unforgettable memories and a world-view in his family that they will always be thankful for.

After finishing his last assignment in the Far East, Stephen retired in Etobicoke with his wife, Suk Fan. He still loved to be of service to others, a productive day was a happy day for Stephen. He translated for the Immigration and Refugee Board, volunteered at church, and taught Tai Chi to his fellow condo neighbours.

Stephen always believed in trying his best and continually learning, which he did until his last day. His work-ethic, empathy, and kindness will always be remembered by those who witnessed them and serve as examples of his care. Steven will always be remembered as a caring and loving husband, father, and friend, by those who knew him, near and far.

A Funeral Service will be held at Turner & Porter, Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street on Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or The Toronto Humane Society would be appreciated.

Dear Lisa (Andre), John and Auntie Suk Fan,

We are saddened by the passing of your father Lisa and John, and husband Auntie. We offer our deepest sympathies. I remember Uncle Stephen with that grand and gentle smile, exactly as you have chosen in the photograph. He was such a good friend to my parents. I still recall his laugh and his kindness. We are sorry to hear of the news and I will always have fond memories of him.
