Stefania de Mintich, age 88, of Mississauga, fell asleep in the Lord on November 20, 2025, at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and cardiovascular disease.
She is survived by her son Ovidiu Ocrain and his partner Michelle Luo, grandchildren Audriana and Christopher Ocrain, and daughter-in-law Marianne Ocrain. She is also survived by her niece Ecaterina Linul, her husband Michael, and their daughter Yvonne, and by her stepchildren Flora, John, and Alexander de Mintich. Stefania was predeceased by her first husband Claudiu Ocrain and second husband John de Mintich.
Stefania was born on October 12, 1937 in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, Romania. As a child Stefania and her parents Elena and Gheorghe Balaure survived World War II and the Russian invasion of Romania.
As an exceptional student, Stefania went to the University of Bucharest and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. While in college she married Claudiu Ocrain and had her son Ovidiu.
She taught Biology until her retirement from the Palas High School in Constanta, Romania. She then relocated to Etobicoke, Canada in 1994 where she married John de Mintich.
Stefania and John lived an active happy life together. They enjoyed travelling and spending time with family and friends from both Canada and the United States.
Stefania fell ill with a stroke and Alzheimer’s in 2018 and was hospitalized at Trillium Hospital in Mississauga, then transferred to the Village at Erin Meadows long term care facility in Mississauga where she received very good care.
Due to sepsis complications, Stefania reposed on November 20, 2025, at Credit Valley Hospital in Mississauga.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, November 23 from 2:30pm to 3:30pm at Turner & Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.
Burial will follow on Monday, November 24 at 2:00pm at The Romanian Orthodox Episcopate of America, 2535 Grey Tower Rd, Jackson, MI, USA.
All services are in the care of Turner & Porter Funeral Home.
