In Celebration of

Stasia May (née Plona)

February 4, 1951 -  February 3, 2026

Stasia May (née Plona), age 74, passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026, at Princess Margaret Hospital located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Born on February 4, 1951, in Ploszyce, Poland, then relocated to Canada as a young girl with her parents and three siblings. Stasia’s life was a true testament of the resilience, love, and unwavering devotion to those she held dear. One of eight children, Stasia grew up surrounded by the bonds of a large family. Though her parents and two siblings passed before her, their memory remained close to her heart throughout her life. She leaves behind her daughter, Stephanie, and husband, Ian Corbett, and grandchildren. Along with brothers and sisters and their spouses, and so many loved nieces and nephews including their spouses and children, cousins & spouses, and all the family around the globe. Countless friends and work colleagues that admired her expansive several decades long work career at St. Michael's Hospital.

After retirement, she would later experience the profound loss of her husband, and my dad, Colin May, but continued forward and lived with immediate family around her. Stasia was known for her outgoing independent nature and deep love for her family. To many in the world, she was more than just one person — she was a source of comfort, laughter, wisdom, and strength. Her presence filled every room she entered with warmth and vitality. Her courage in adversity, her joy in simple moments, and the fierce love that defined every decision she made. She will be dearly missed.

Friends, everyone is welcome to say their goodbyes.

A funeral service will be held in Toronto, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, from 11-1 p.m., located at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, (416)767-3153, and burial at Parklawn Cemetery will follow.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers would be greatly appreciated; donations could be sent to Princess Margaret Hospital. Shared stories and pictures may be left for the family at iancorbett88@gmail.com.

Met Stasia and Colin in the 70s so we go back nearly 50 years as do may others. I will remember her as a super fun-loving person who was always full of undeniable energy, a laughing smile, super unexpected adventures, and so many warm family gatherings together. Her amazing homemade desserts, pies, cakes, dinners and non-stop friendly gatherings. She was the kindest person you might ever meet in your life and touched so many. I believe her family and friends meant everything to her and she loved every one of you.

Stasia loved life and didn't let it go easy. Will miss her dearly always XOXOXO

I had the great pleasure of knowing and working with Stasia since 1995 when I first joined the St. Michael's Hospital Physicians' Association. During the many years I served on the SMHPA Executive, including as the Chair, my colleagues and I were the beneficiaries of Stasia's outstanding expertise, hardworking nature, integrity, and compassion. Her devotion to her work was nothing short of amazing and inspiring, and second only to her devotion to Colin and her family, who she spoke of often. My sincere condolences to Stasia's family and friends--you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I’m so sad to hear this. Stasia was one of those special friends. We didn’t interact that often. Mostly when I, as a part time but full time Professor, had administrative questions. Somehow we dealt with the business in a flash so we could divert to talking about family and other more important things like gardens, or recipes or books. For me she was one of those persons who made St. Mikes special.

I am very sad to hear of Stasia’s passing. She was the heart and soul of the SMHPA, knew everyone and responded promptly and professionally to all of our inquiries always with a smile. I looked forward to her Christmas cards which were poetic with a warm and caring message.
My heartfelt condolences go out to her family.
May her memory be for a blessing.
