It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my Tata (Father) Stanisław Iciński. For two weeks he valiantly fought in Etobicoke General Hospital's ICU until he could no more. On October 3rd, at 1:25 p.m. he peacefully began his long journey home.
On July 5th, 1942 he was born in Chorchosy, Poland to Rozalia and Franciszek, their first child, followed by his sister Halina, and brother Czesław. From a young age he worked on the family farm and later logged trees with his father. He could spend endless hours fondly reminiscing about his love for the rolling fields of wheat, meadows and forests of his youth. The sky was never bluer, the bird song never sweeter, the apples never more fragrant.
In his early twenties he left for Słupsk Poland to serve out two years of compulsory military service. He would often recount stories of camaraderie and barracks hijinks (including a couple nights spent in the base's jail) with great fondness.
By October of 1968 he set sail across the Atlantic to Canada where he later married his one and only Władysława; soon after welcoming their only child Elizabeth.
Tata worked as a Tool and Die Maker most notably at Kenroc, and Brunner Canada. He loved to tinker, taking things apart and putting them back together. But his greatest time spent was outdoors in the garden, planting various crops and happily sharing in his harvest.
Tata was hard working, devout in his faith, a good neighbour, a decent man, and a kind-hearted, compassionate soul. He had simple tastes, cared not for possessions but for good company, a good story and a hearty laugh or two. He adored his four-legged friends, and they him.
He often sang of a Mały Biały Domek (Little White House). May your nostalgia for this Little White House be no more.
You will be missed terribly. Rest in peace Tata. Until we all meet again.
