In Celebration of

Sophie Winiarz

June 11, 1938 -  March 25, 2018

Peacefully passed at Idlewyld Manor on March 25, 2018 in her 79th year.
Beloved wife of the late Michael Winiarz (2003). Loving and caring mother of Mary (Edward), Tony (Helen), Teresa (Joseph), Krystyna (Terry), Timmy (Dianne), Johnny (Diane) and Greg (Claudia).
Cherished Babcia to Andy (Kelly), Christopher (Katie), Teresa (Ryan), Michael (Joliette), Daniel (Marissa), Stefan, Alexandra, T.J., Christopher, Kathryn, Adam, Jared, Vanessa and Sarah.
Prababcia to Sofia, Owen, Benjamin, Tatum and Lucas.
She began her journey June 11, 1938 in Brody, Poland. Sophie with her parents and brother immigrated to the United States in 1950. They then made their way to Toronto to reunite with her sister a few years later. On August 21, 1954 at St. Stanislaus Parish in Toronto she began her life with Michael. Sophie was a loving wife for 49 years, her devotion to her family and the church supported her through her journey and ultimately gave her peace. Sophie enjoyed serving her church by partaking as a Eucharistic minister, providing coffee and donuts after mass and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League. She had a passion for cooking, baking and bringing her family together for a meal. Her hobbies included collecting porcelain dolls, sewing, gardening, and playing the accordion. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks and appreciation for the care provided by the staff at Granite Landing (Cambridge) and the exceptional and compassionate care she received at Idlewyld Manor (Hamilton).

Our sympathy to all of you. Have wonderful memories of Sophie and their time in Missouri. She was my neighbor and we went to grade school together, Tony spoke pretty good English and interpreted for Sophie and her mom and dad. Will always remember her sweet smile and how quickly she learned English.
