In Celebration of

Sophie Jeanette Moon (nee Highfield)

August 10, 1932 -  September 16, 2021

Sadly passed away in hospital from the effects of a stroke suffered on July 12, 2021. She left us on September 16, into the arms her late husband Gordon and beloved late son Christopher. She has finally found the peace and rest she so greatly deserves. Cherished mother of Scott (Sandi) and Shawn (Leona). Proud Grandma of Saige, Slader and Jacob. She will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends.

Jean was born in Gap, Pennsylvania to Clarence and Marjorie Highfield. When she was young, the family left Pennsylvania to settle in Bronte, where they grew mushrooms and ran a small roadside diner.

After getting married, Jean and her husband Gord bought a home in Lakeview area of Mississauga where they would live together for the next 50 plus years, raising three boys along with numerous cats and dogs.

Jean always enjoyed the company of others, whether it was dances at the Legion Hall, house parties by the gazebo, visits and phone calls with her siblings, family vacations, bingo with the girls, holiday family gatherings, church service on Sunday mornings, dinners at Swiss Chalet or just spending evenings making jigsaw puzzles with her kids. She so cherished these moments.

Her remaining years were tough. The death of her husband and a series of medical ailments presented her with emotional and physical challenges. Despite this, she remained strong willed and continued to fight and meet these challenges head on. She took pride in telling everyone that she was a fighter and very tough.

She continued to live independently at Erin Meadows retirement residence up until her recent stroke. She found strength in the gentle hugs and kisses she so treasured from her grandkids. Her grandchildren were a great source of pride, and she would tell anyone she met all about them. Family was so important to her.

Thank you for all the happiness, joy and love you have given to us; your children, your grandchildren and all your family and friends. We are so grateful for the lifetime of memories which you leave behind for us to look back on and smile. May God hold you near and dear just as you have held us these many years.

We miss you mom, and we will love you forever… Until we can hold each other again.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4
