In Celebration of

Sonja Anneliese Kaluzny

April 9, 2010 -  September 16, 2016

Our beautiful warrior princess passed away peacefully and gracefully at home surrounded by her Mommy, Daddy and big brothers, Daniel and Roland, after her lengthy and courageous battle with brain cancer. Words can not describe the love we have for Sonja and the sadness we feel now that she is gone. Sonja and her infectious smile brought so much joy and love to all those fortunate to have known her. Though her illness robbed her of so much for half of her precious life her spirits never wavered nor did her desire to make others laugh. Sonja was indeed a gift from God but sadly she was also needed in heaven so all we can do now is be the best people we can possibly be while on this earth so that we’ll be fortunate enough to join her one day.

Kaluzny family my heart is aching for you -- nothing in life prepares us for these moments. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Nikol, Henry, Daniel and Roland:
I met your family through my daughter, Alison. The first time I saw Sonja, she was a delightful little toddler and she put her little dolly in my hands to admire. Since her diagnosis and during the following years of her illness, the members of my church, St. Peter's in Cobourg, have been constantly praying for her.
We are glad that she is now out of pain and at rest with Jesus who said 'Suffer little children to come unto me, for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven'.. We pray that you will be given the strength to get through these difficult days, knowing that you did all you could possibly do to make life happy and comfortable for your little Sleeping Beauty.
God bless you all. June

While life makes no sense and seems unfair — brutal, even, in this case — the strength, bravery and hope exhibited by Sonja and that of her family throughout her illness was remarkable. I don't think she ever asked "why me?" I am desperately saddened by this news but unfortunately it was not entirely unexpected. However, it means that Sonja is now at peace and — according to my belief — was chosen to serve on another plane as an angel, an inspiration and a source of joy just as she was during her short life with us. I hope that the strength, bravery and hope that had helped Sonja and her family cope will endure during their period of mourning. My heart goes out to you. My prayers are with you. I will never forget this magnificent child I never got to meet but whom I adored.
