January 1, 1937 -  May 4, 2022

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at Dorothy Ley Hospice on Wednesday May 4, 2022.
Beloved mother of Alexander Sasha (Rita), & Michael Misha (Simone). Doting Grandma of David, James (Hannah), Ashley, and loving Baba to William, & Henry. She was very proud of all her grandchildren. Sofija will be deeply missed by many extended family & friends.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Saturday from 6-8 with prayers at 7:30, & on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 with prayers at 7:30. Funeral Rite will be celebrated on Monday May 9, 2022 at Holy Transfiguration Monastery, 7470 McNiven Road. Milton, Ontario at 11am. Interment will follow at the church cemetery. For those who wish, donations may be made to Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

My fondest memory is when she invited my parents to Canada Day celebrations at the Embassy in Belgrade knowing they would enjoy the garden party.

We are saddened to hear the passing of Sofia. She will always be remembered by the Serbian community for all her dedication to promoting Serbian culture and her continued work in the recognition of Serbian heritage in Ontario.

I am very grateful for knowing Sofija, and for having had the opportunity to spend time with her and hear some of of the wonderful stories of her life. She was an absolutely amazing woman, extremely smart, a true force of nature, and especially passionate about and devoted to all just causes related to her motherland. And amongst all that, truly loving and gentle mother. She will be gravely missed.
