Chris Melidoniotis

Our father’s story was typical of millions of European immigrants. He was born in 1927 in a tiny farming village in northern Greece. He survived the depression. He survived the Second World War and the Nazi occupation of his village. He survived the subsequent Greek civil war. He came to Canada in search of something better with no money and a grade six education.
Through sheer determination he built a life here. He worked extremely hard. He ran his own business. He married (my father and mother were married for 56 years). He raised a family. He was proud of his accomplishments and even with the hardships that he had faced in his life, he still considered himself very lucky.
He wasn't a physically imposing person but he was a strong man. He wasn't an educated person but he was a smart man. He did not show emotion easily but he was a loving man.
