I'll always hold summer holidays in Vernon with Granny in my heart. Painting on ceramics (Gran's results being far more elegant than ours), doing fashion shows wearing some of her beautiful vintage dresses, going on walks and stopping to look at every flower, tasting delicious peaches, and lounging at Lake Okanagan, looking for Ogopogo. I can still hear her humming "ta-dum" with a cheeky smile as she danced around with whoever was closest. Love & miss you so much Gran.
When my sister and I were young the family went to BC most summers to visit Grannie. We would spend hours on the beach, Grannie always keeping a watchful eye on us while managing not to wet her perfect head of silver curls. On some of those trips our cousins would be there, and the four of us would battle for Gran’s attention. She had time for all of us — watching handstands and flips and inspecting our sand castles. Her neighbours and friends really loved her, and she always had a kind word or greeting for everyone who was out and about in the community. Grannie’s house was always filled with music — there was never a moment when the radio wasn’t on or she wasn’t singing or humming to herself. She always encouraged my sister and me to play piano when we visited, and she could catch a wrong note from the other side of the house (a trait she shares with her daughter Wendy). Gran had so many stories to tell, and lived such a rich and colourful life. She really loved helping people, and she shared her joie de vivre with everyone around her. In her passing I am reminded of what’s important in life: sharing joyful moments with those that you love. I love you, Grannie.
I didn’t know Shirley very long but I do remember her kindness and wonderful smile. My condolences to her family.
Such special times with this lovely Aunt and her awesome hubby Chuck. We remember a trip to Vernon and Pam's "exit" through the screen door!!!!
Love to both you and Wendy and your kids, spouses, etc.
Love from us. Elisabeth, Ken, Pam Jamie.
We wish all of the family our sincere condolences. Your Mom always had such a cheerful and loving personality. She will be missed! Love from all of us.
