In Celebration of

Sheila Elaine Hookong

December 12, 1935 -  August 23, 2021

After bravely fighting complications which ensued after cancer surgery, Sheila (née Mullett) passed peacefully early on the morning of August 23, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Christiana, Jamaica and grew up in the small town of Spaldings. She went to school at Excelsior in Kingston Jamaica and went on to work at Kingston St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC) where she met her future husband, Joseph HooKong. They were married for 65 years. Early in their marriage, Sheila and Joseph had two children, Debbie and Richard and then emigrated to Canada in 1962, where they forged a new life together and had their third child, Susan. Sheila worked for the Ontario Ministry of Revenue where she pioneered many advances as the supervisor of the Word Processing Unit in the Corporations Tax department.

She was quick to make friends, was full of life and had a heart for all people. Her generosity was unparalleled, and the list is long of people she has helped, consoled, and supported. She will be dearly missed by all. Surviving her are her husband Joseph, her brother Donald Mullett (Gloria); her daughter, Debra Norton; son Richard Hookong (Ivette); daughter Susan Hookong-Taylor; and her grandchildren, Joseph and Lindsay Norton, Evan and Julia Hookong-Taylor, Marcus, André and Isabella Hookong.

Dear Joe and family, so sorry for your loss. Shiela was a very wonderful Boss, I loved her like a mother. She treated all her staff with a lot of respect. I will miss her but I will never forget her. May God give you and all your wonderful family, all the support and love that you need at this time. Our deepest condolences to you and all your family.

My condolences to all of you on the passing of a beautiful lady that I haven't seen in so many years. All the Hookongs were such a big part of my childhood. You were all the kindest and nicest people I knew throughout my childhood and twenties. Although our paths haven't crossed in a very long time, I have thought about all of you many times over the years. I am so sad for your loss.

Sheila,
You were the light in the darkness, the happiness in sorrow, always unwavering in your faith, friend to all who were fortunate to have made your acquaintance, and enemy to none. May you now rest in peace with the company of the Almighty.
We will always remember you and reminisce about all the happy times we shared.
With love,
Keith and Celine Hendricks and Family
