Sharon Cape

August 9, 1939 -  February 3, 2017

Sharon Powell Cape, whose love and kindness will be missed fondly, died peacefully just before dawn on February 3, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, surrounded by loved ones.

Born Sharon Carr in Victoria, BC on August 9, 1939 to George Carr and Marie Stevenson, she was the first member of her family to attend university, studying English and Psychology and earning a B.A. prior to taking teacher training.

She moved to Bloor West Village in the early 1970s to raise a family and teach English as a Second Language. Sharon also taught high school English at both Western Tech and Harbord Collegiate. Sharon lived in Bloor West Village for over 40 years, most recently at The Grenadier Retirement Home, where she will be missed by her loving partner John Lasruk, and by many others. Sharon's legacy will be upheld by her son Trevor and his partner Nicole, by her son Brendan and his wife Amy, and by her grandchildren, Trinity, Kether, Owen, Elliot and Noah. Sharon's friends and family are invited to attend a visitation from 4pm-8pm on Monday February 6, at Turner & Porter's Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street, Toronto) where her funeral service will be held, Tuesday February 7, 2017 at 3pm. Donations can be made in her honour to the Alzheimer's Society of Canada.

I worked with Sharon at Western Tech school for years. She was a kind and gentle woman - very dedicated to her students and to her profession. I will always remember her lovely laugh and her warm heart.
