In Celebration of

Serdar Ozyetis

July 3, 1948 -  August 2, 2025

Serdar Ozyetis passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on August 2, 2025, at the age of 77. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a fiercely logical thinker, and a man whose dry wit and one-word zingers left lasting impressions.

Born in Uşak, Türkiye, Serdar graduated from the Middle Eastern Technical University (ODTÜ) in 1970 with a degree in engineering. It was during those formative university years that he met the love of his life, Bilge, with whom he would share over 50 years of marriage. They were married in 1973 and welcomed their children, Baris and Pinar, not long after.

In 1981, the family moved to Canada, settling first in Belleville and then in Brampton. Serdar worked as an industrial and network engineer, first at Crane and later for many years at Nortel, where his analytical mind and technical precision were deeply valued. Never one to show unnecessary emotion, Serdar had an unshakable sense of calm, paired with a stubbornness that made him both reliable and uniquely himself.

He had a quiet passion for puzzles and strategy, from Sudoku to bridge, and was known to spend hours mastering his favorite video game, Lode Runner. A lifelong lover of music, Serdar was a devoted Beatles fan with a soft spot for Frank Sinatra — and once upon a time, he even fronted his own band. That early spark may have passed down to his daughter, who followed in his musical footsteps years later.

Serdar had a remarkable ability to fix or build just about anything. From designing the family deck to finishing the basement, his hands and mind were always in sync. He had a deep love for his children, and an even deeper affection for his four grandchildren — Ela, Sevi, Arya, and Mayzie — who brought out his playful side with games of “bumpy road” and endless chase sessions. He would do anything for them.

He was predeceased by his parents, Jale and Celal, and his eldest brother, Cihat. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Bilge; his children, Baris (Arti) and Pinar (Noyan); and his cherished grandchildren: Ela, Sevi, Arya, and Mayzie.

Serdar is also survived by his brothers Atilla, Nejat (Gulten), and Iskender; his sisters-in-law Emine and Sermin and Ufuk and Aydan; and a large extended family in Türkiye and Germany, including many cousins, nieces, nephews, and their families: Umit, Alper, Emir, Gozde, Müge, Kursat, Isil, Arda, Ajda, Ceren, Emre, Tolga, Asli, Atakan, Berk, and many more. He leaves behind lifelong friends, along with their families — a community of people who loved and respected him deeply.

Serdar will be remembered for his intelligence, his steady presence, his sense of humour, and above all, his love for his family. He will be missed more than words can say.
