Passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the age of 88, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Born in Delta, Ontario. Predeceased earlier this year by husband George, by parents Harry and Mabel McElroy and sister Dorothy. Incredibly loved mother of Cheryl (Jim) and Brian (Cindy). Amazing grandmother of Kelly, Karin, Kyle, Brianne and Brendan. Special aunt of many nieces and nephews. Mom was an amazing and incredible woman. She could do or accomplish anything she wanted to. She complemented Dad so well with her abundant energy, zest for life and fearless determination. She came to Toronto as a teenager to start her life and anywhere she went was never the same. She worked as a switchboard operator in Ontario Government offices and knew many high flyers early on. It seemed to be the right fit for her. She worked at A.V. Roe and eventually started selling real estate at M. Ruta Realty in Niagara Falls when we were living there in 1967 and then at Haney, Hunt and Bowden and finally Royal Trust/Royal Lepage in Mississauga until she retired. But she never really stopped her networking and meeting with friends and family. She believed it was important to get out into the world and see and experience as much of life as possible being from such a small village. The world truly was Mom’s backyard. She took our family on many trips and we were well versed in airplane travel from early ages. She stood bravely through the last 20 months, resolute and strong and made a super family trip to Cuba in June 2013 and then walked around the top of the CN Tower for her 87th birthday in August 2013. Her boundless spirit, love, nurturing and resilience are an inspiration to all of us. Mom/Grandma will be greatly missed, but her life will celebrated for its abundance and joy.

Our thanks to Dr. Gupta and CVH Cancer Clinic and Palliative Care staff for such loving care for Mom.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter “Neweduk-Erin Mills” Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (just east of Erin Mills Pkwy), on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Committal service immediately to follow at Springcreek Cemetery, Clarkson Road, Mississauga.

For those who wish, memorial donations may be made to Breast Cancer research.
