In Celebration of

Ruth Georgina Hughes (nee Letts)

December 2, 1925 -  April 11, 2017

Peacefully on April 11, 2017 at the age of 91 at Trillium Health Centre, Mississauga. Born Dec. 2, 1925 in St. Lambert, Quebec. Daughter of Ralph Letts and Ellen Mary (Myrick) Letts. Ruthie was one of seven children and is survived by her brother Dr. Harry Letts and her sister Barbara Newby. She was predeceased by her siblings Marjorie, Tom, Dorothy (“Red”) and Junie. Married to her soul mate Frank in 1950 until Frank's death in 1996. Beloved Mother of Jeff Hughes and his wife Kim, Cindi Charters and her husband Thom and Susie Mills who is lovingly supported by her partner Mike McDowell. Adored grandmother of Clay Charters and his wife Jennie, Kyle Charters and his wife Carly, Carmen and Jackson Hughes, and Will Rutledge. Fun loving GG to Wyatt, Ava, Hadley and Griffin Charters. Ruthie loved her family above all else. She took care of anyone that asked for her help. She kept a beautiful home and loved to play bridge. Being taken care of the last six months of her life was not her favourite thing but she never lost her love of life, her sweet personality and her wonderful sense of humour. We thank all of our friends and family: our Auntie Barb who moved into Sunrise Senior Living for the last two months of Mom's life to provide her with companionship, our cousins who sent us home from the hospital "for a break" and stepped in to care for Mom as if she was theirs, and our children who provided a place to stay, a shoulder to cry on, quiet support and a large glass of wine or tequila when needed. We will love you forever Mom. Be at peace and say hi to Dad. Friends may call to Turner & Porter, Butler Chapel (between Kipling and Islington Aves.) on Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 12 noon until the time of Service in the Chapel at 1 p.m. In Ruth’s memory donations to Sick Kids Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

The photo Of Ruthie is how I will always remember her. I have such fond memories of her and all of the Hughes family from our Chinguacousy days. My Mom and Dad Tom and Maureen Kavanagh cherished their friendship with Ruth and Frank. My thoughts are with Susie, Cindi and Jeff and their families. A wonderful family indeed. Your Mom will be missed. She was an awesome lady. xo
