Ruth Eileen Balmer

Passed away in her 94th year on Friday, February 2, 2018, at the Briton House Retirement Centre. Beloved wife of the late Philip Davidson Balmer. Loving mother of David (Margaret), Richard (Sally), James (Jennifer) and Heather Keeling (Larry). Cherished grandma to Sarah, Jeffrey, Diana, Alison, Matthew, James, Stephanie, Cindy and great-grandma of Clark and Levi. Ruth is also survived by her sister Doreen Dickie. Ruth was extremely devoted to her family and charities. Ruth loved the environment, was an early recycling enthusiast and an avid rose gardener. Other favourite activities were travelling with family and swimming anytime or anywhere. A Funeral Service will be held at Humber Valley United Church, 76 Anglesey Blvd., on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Youth Without Shelter in Ruth's name would be appreciated. Rick and Steph,

She was a very special woman, and she provided the most spirit and the best cookies that a hockey team could ask for! It still amazes me that she willing joined us on multiple bus trips, and she is definitely an inspiration to everyone!

Thinking of both of you,

Emily

I was saddened to read in the Globe of Ruth's death. Our parents were friends in pre-war Ottawa and Ruth and Doreen became friends of my sister Christine and me. We had many wonderful times roaming the woods behind their home or in my home in Winchester and, until last year, Ruth and I kept in touch at Christmas. I have fond memories from those long-ago days. My sincere sympathy goes to Ruth's family.
