Russell Grant Charlton, P.Eng. (1944-2025), of Mississauga passed away peacefully at the age of 81 after a second courageous battle with cancer. His loving wife of 59 years, Margaret, was by his side.
Born in Galt, in his teens his family relocated to the North Bay area, a place that would be dear to him his whole life. Indeed, North Bay is where he met Margaret in 1965. They married in April of 1966. His career as a professional engineer took him from North Bay, to Sault Ste Marie to Mississauga.
Russ maintained his sense of curiosity and pursuit of knowledge his whole life. He was a man of many interests and talents. He loved nature and the outdoors, cottage life and fishing with his friends, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed woodworking, lapidary, travelling the world with Margaret and friends, classical music, reading classic fiction, science and history books, and to cook and experiment with various types of cuisine.
Most of all, Russ loved his family. He touched the lives of many with his warmth, generosity, creativity, curiosity, wit and sense of humour, which ranged from dry and droll to puns and some of the best dad jokes out there. He will be deeply missed.
Russ is survived by his wife Margaret (née Tiffany), his three children Amelia (Graham), Alan, and Madelaine (Ken), his four grandchildren Marilyn (Kyle), Lillian, Benjamin, and Aila, his two great-grandchildren, Caden and Rowan, and his sister Lois Hutton (Bob). He was predeceased by his sister Caroline McDonald.
A visitation will be held for Russ at the Turner & Porter Funeral Home at 1981 Dundas St W., Mississauga on Saturday, December 20th from 3 PM to 6 PM.
A Celebration of Life will be held in spring 2026 in Nipissing.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Russ’s memory to Ian Anderson House or Trillium Health Partners Foundation.
