In Celebration of

Russell Albert Bell

August 15, 1928 -  November 25, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Russell Albert Bell on November 25, 2024, at Humber River Hospital. He was 96 years old.

Born on August 15, 1928, in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Russell was a devoted father to his three children and a proud grandfather to four grandchildren. He was also a loving partner to his late companion, Nancy. A guiding figure to his grandson Jeffrey and a trusted adult to many of his son Chris’s friends, Russ delighted in becoming "one of the boys" as they all grew older.

Russ will be remembered by all who knew him as fun-loving, resilient, compassionate, and quick-witted.

The third of five children born to Robert and Henrietta Bell, Russ moved to Toronto at the age of 17, where he began building a life of hard work and dedication. He joined Stauffer Chemical Company and, over an impressive 45-year career, rose to a supervisory position. Upon retiring, Russ met his beloved Nancy, and together they shared many joyful years, including raising their treasured rescue poodle, Gemma.

Russ had a zest for life and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures: the music of Gordon Lightfoot, time spent in nature, and enjoying "damn good" food with his family — especially Chinese food and apple pie.

Russell is survived by his sons Donald (Jacqueline) and Christopher (Jessica), and his grandsons Travis and Wolfgang. He was predeceased by his daughter Rosalind (Lanny), his grandson Jeffrey, his granddaughter Taylor, the mother of his children Donna, and his beloved partner Nancy.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Sangita and the compassionate care team at Humber Heights for their unwavering kindness, good humor, and care over the past two years. Special thanks are also offered to the medical staff at Humber River Hospital for their dedicated efforts in keeping Russ comfortable in his final days.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Wilfred Schlegel Hope Fund to support the caregivers and team members at Humber Heights during times of difficulty and unforeseen financial hardship (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/dn/49392).

A celebration of Russell’s life will be held at a later date in Toronto.

Russ will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.

God Bless him;

A real mans' man and made you feel like you fit in just like a hand in a glove, even though much older than I.
Very witty and could crack a decent joke, that is style, but he has left a fine family.

Our condolences to the entire Bell family.
Russ was a friendly, jovial and humorous man who took delight in being " one of the boys" with his sons' many friends and acquaintances. He will be sorely missed and will remain in our hearts and prayers. May he rest in peace and be reunited with those he loved who have gone before him.

With love from the Weizer family
