Roy also has three ½ sisters in the UK.Roy, the eldest child in his family, was born in Preston, Brighton, UK the son of Arthur Arnott-Longmuir and Irene Ranger. Roy immigrated to Canada in 1949 landing in Halifax, NS aboard the RMS Aquitania a Cunard Liner, on its final voyage.
Roy served bravely with the British Allied Forces in India and Burma during WWII. Roy was an active Veteran and he wore his medals with great pride as he supported his Legion membership and Remembrance Day activities. Roy spoke often about his WWII experiences with great knowledge and commitment to the cause of freedom Lest We Forget.

Rev. Al Butler married Roy for the second time as he was the brother to wife Teresa. Father Butler became a close friend to both Roy and Annabelle. Roy was excited and proud to become part of a large extended family centered around new wife Annabelle on Coram Crescent in Mississauga, ON. Father Al was very happy to join Annabelle’s family too. Roy’s Butler family are Reverend Albert Butler (2001), Rita Turner (John), Jack (Ivy), Kay (1999). Roy was employed by CN Railway working on rail line infrastructure, Western Star Trucks in purchasing and inventory control, and with Freight Liner Trucks. Later Roy was employed by the Ontario Ministry of Safety and Corrections as a stock keeper/inventory control person in the stores department where he introduced new business processes which improved efficiencies, a job he enjoyed very much.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank Rev. George Galea for his continued interest and spiritual care for both Annabelle and Roy. May they Rest In Peace.

Roy earned the 4th Degree in the Knights of Columbus and was an active member recognized often with many special awards for his community dedication, active participation, committee leadership and fundraising activities. Roy and Annabelle were a very active team especially for the annual Knights of Columbus new car draws. For many years Roy was a great organizer for the Mississauga Santa Claus Parade working tirelessly preparing advertising banners to fundraise support for the Knights of Columbus Charities through business organization participation. We wish to acknowledge and thank Joe Mathews a former Grand Knight who continued to work as a Eucharist Minister and visited Roy at Cawthra Gardens.

In retirement Roy enjoyed working outdoors and spending much of his time working in his gardens and building projects to support his love of his favourite cat ‘Callie’ and other cats that came along too including ‘Zoe’ and ‘Ginger’ a permanent resident of Mexico. He really enjoyed the company of all animals especially the family dogs ‘Kizzie’, ‘Barklie’, ‘Elmo’, ‘Misty’, ‘Leo’ and ‘Bellie’.

Roy and Annabelle especially loved dancing, casino trips and travelling together particularly with family members. Special times for Roy were always family events and celebrations, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and birthday parties. He especially enjoyed his own birthday party and never failed to ask what was happening to mark the occasion.

Roy’s longevity in life can be attributed to the special attention of Theresa McKnight, his own personal Nurse Practitioner, who knew him so well and intervened so often to prevent and manage his health issues. Our family acknowledges and wishes to sincerely recognize Dr. Whitmore, the NP STAT Team, and the family of staff at Cawthra Gardens Long Term Care Home led by Ursula for their truly caring and compassionate care. We thank staff and Sheridan College students for gathering to give Roy a heartfelt and moving tribute singing ‘O Canada’ while forming an honour guard and procession for a final salute to him as he left his home for the last time. Many staff and residents became friends to Roy as they came to know and respect him. They remember Roy as a caring, calm and gentle man even while facing life changing challenges. The family would appreciate, in lieu of flowers, that donations be directed to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada.
