In Celebration of

Ronald O'Connor

May 30, 1936 -  May 22, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ron (Ronald) O’Connor; he left us peacefully on May 22nd, 2025, just shy of his 89th birthday.

Ron was a devoted father and grandfather; he is survived by his children Josephine (Jo) Shanks (Andrew), Sharon O’Connor and Andrew O’Connor (Janice). He was very proud poppa to Nicholas Shanks and Lindsay Melko (Justin). Ron was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Janet O’Connor, and was blessed to find great joy with the companionship of his second love, Claudette Majaina. Ron is predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Zapal (Thomas) and Eileen Wanvig.

Ron was a bit of a medical miracle, having survived and lived a relatively healthy life for an unprecedented 45 years after having a triple bypass operation in 1980. The care that he received from the cardiac clinic at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital was unmatched. The family would like to send special thanks to Dr. Jan Orfi and Liz Owford and our family physician, Dr. Jasreen Cheema.

In better times, soccer was ever present in Ron’s life – from playing as a young boy, to playing semi-professional to coaching for the Clarkson Soccer Club for many years and finally coaching his son and his granddaughter. Many family events were spent out at the soccer field, come rain or shine. A lifelong Arsenal fan, he forgave their many missteps and continued to support his team.

In more recent years, Ron spent much time at the Legion (branch 582) from Friday night dancing to volunteering, working with the poppy fund and, one of his great passions, producing a monthly newsletter.

When surrounded by his family, Ron often said that he was the luckiest man alive but it is those who knew him who were so very lucky to have had him in our lives for as long as we did. He will be deeply missed.

A visitation will be held at the Turner and Porter Neweduk – Erin Mills Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. West, Mississauga on Monday, June 2nd from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.

A funeral service will be held at the Turner and Porter Neweduk – Erin Mills Chapel on Tuesday, June 3rd at
11 a.m. with a reception to follow.

Ron, myself and my late husband (Ron) were neighbours in Orpington, England. We have remained in constant touch for 60 years. It is a very sad occasion but pleased that he is free of pain, at last. I have such fond memories of him and Janet when they visited us in Bournemouth a long time ago. May he rest in peace, God bless him.
