It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Ronald Neil Smallbone on Friday, April 5th, 2024 (68 years old). Ron passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Trillium Hospital Mississauga.
Those left to mourn his passing include his son David, daughters Jacqueline (Geoff) & daughter Patricia (Mike), and son Jeffrey. Devoted Grandfather to his two grandchildren Claire & Mia Meadow as well as extended family and friends. Predeceased by his parents “Jack” John and Norma and brothers Bruce and Eddie Smallbone.
Ron served as a Police Officer starting at age 19 with Toronto Police Services. He spent most of his career at 52 Division retiring in 2005 as a staff Sergeant ultimately serving 31 years with Toronto Police Services. On the force he had a reputation of being loyal and compassionate, treating everyone with respect and amicability.
He had a great sense of humour and was an incredibly kind man who impacted many lives around him. Ron enjoyed his life filling his time with gardening and other talents which included sailing. While he achieved multiple achievements sailing his cherished sailboat "Epiphany," his most memorable and demanding feat was navigating Epiphany to Cuba. Departing from the Port Credit Yacht club, he travelled through the Erie barge canal system, Hudson River, Sandy Hook Channel, and made his way to Florida where he made the crossing to Veradero, Cuba.
His love for the Sea was only outweighed by the love he had for his family. He was a dedicated father who cared deeply for his children and was proud of their life achievements, Dr. Jeffrey who was accepted into Faculty of Medicine at UofT currently completing his residency, David who served in the Canadian Forces. Proud of the birth of his two beautiful granddaughters Claire & Mia Meadow and the passion Patricia has for cooking and Jacqueline’s knowledge shows in her work as an Elevator Consultant.
Though he has taken his final sail, the way he lived his life with kindness and love for others has passed on invaluable lessons that will last for multiple lifetimes.
On this page, we encourage people to share their favourite memory of Ron.
