In Celebration of

Robin Catherine Hanson

September 3, 1954 -  October 28, 2017

We are sad to announce the death of our dear Robin surrounded by loving family at Ian Anderson House, Oakville, following a two and a half year struggle with ovarian cancer. Robin was a fighter from the day she was born in Montreal, weighing less than 3 lbs, through to this final challenge, borne with dignity and grace.
The daughter of the late Robert C. Hanson and Mary Florence Nugent, she is survived by her adoring husband Roger Grochmal, Burlington, her beloved children Kyle Rutherford (Gosia), Georgetown, Megan Rutherford, Melbourne Australia, her older sisters who cherished her, Jane Cooney, Toronto and Sue Hanson Buckland, Point Claire, QC. She was bonus mom to Michael Grochmal (Sophia), Oakville and Thomas Grochmal (Rachel), Chatham. Also greatly missed by her grandchildren Kasia Rutherford and Philip, Christopher, Jennifer, Jack, Orlagh and Tommy Grochmal. She is fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada and the US and by her ex-husband, Kelly Rutherford.
Robin was a graduate of Marymount High and Concordia University, Montreal. She studied accounting and for many difficult years as a single mother had her own business through which she taught her children the value of hard work and higher education. She was an active volunteer in Brampton, Mississauga and Burlington, made many friends in these communities, and touched the hearts of all who met her. Meeting and marrying Roger brought her happiness untold and brought a whole new family for the Hansons to share.
Friends are invited to a celebration of Robin’s life to be held at the Turner & Porter “Peel” Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., (Hwy 10 N. of QEW) on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 1-4 p.m. Robin’s ashes will be interred with those of her parents in the Nugent family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery, Saint John NB.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Oza and his team at Princess Margaret Hospital and the caring staff at Ian Anderson House for their professionalism, kindness and compassion. If desired, we would appreciate memorial donations to Ovarian Cancer Canada to support research into this deadly disease, or Ian Anderson House. Online condolences may be made through www.turnerporter.ca

Roger, my heartfelt condolences to you and your family at this tragic time. Although I never had the opportunity to meet Robin, I know that she would have to be a person of strong character to be your partner. May your family and friends give you strength during this difficult period. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Sincerely, Jacob Polisuk
