In Celebration of

Ralph Thomas Smialek

March 7, 1937 -  May 11, 2020

Sadly, dear Ralph, despite remarkable determination, courage and optimism, passed away on May 11, 2020 at Bridgepoint Hospital at the age of 83. He will be sorely missed by Barbara, his loving wife of 49 years.

Extremely proud of his Polish heritage, Ralph cherished his family which were: his parents, Stella and Edward, brothers Gerald and John, M.D., all pre-deceased. Ralph leaves behind his sister Barbara Makuch (Stan); sisters-in-law Ani Yeo (Grant) and Zoe Lambros (Rick); his wonderful nephews, nieces, their families , and caring cousins.

Grateful for his education at De La Salle, Ralph graduated with a Doctorate of Law from Osgoode Hall in 1961. His satisfying career as a corporate lawyer with Bechtel, Stone & Webster gave him invaluable international experience working in Paris, London, S. America and the Middle East.

After retiring, Ralph as a kind and giving person, volunteered as a Director at Copernicus Lodge and enjoyed warm southern winters with his wife.

Ralph appreciated the arts, travelling adventures, nature walks, gardening and tennis.
Being an avid reader and self proclaimed " newspaper junkie", Ralph loved discussions over lunch with his long-time friends.
While cremation has taken place, a celebration of Ralph’s life will happen at a later time. If desired donations may be made in his memory to a charity of your choice.

Ralph was a good friend as well as my classmate from the Del Class of 1955.

We worked on on a few class reunions together and he was always willing to help.

It was so sad to see him fight so hard but still pass.

God bless him and his wife Barb.
