Ralph Bernard Coulston, 98, of Lorne Park, died peacefully surrounded by family, on Tuesday, August 5th at Credit Valley Hospital.
He was born on January 27th, 1927, to Regis and Helen Coulston (Gerber) in Buffalo, New York.
Ralph travelled to Canada at the age of ten, to be raised by his Grandmother, Grandfather, Uncle Reginald Barclay and Aunt Kathleen Barclay.
Ralph attended John English Public School and Mimico High School where he met lifelong friends. Ralph also started his part-time job at Parr’s Pharmacy in Mimico. A job and mentorship that would start his lifelong journey in pharmacy and entrepreneurship. Ralph then attended the University of Toronto where he obtained his Phm.B. degree and graduated in 1953.
He married the love of his life, his beloved wife of 71 years, Rose Andaloro (“the gal with the thick ankles”) on May 8th, 1954, at Wesley United Church. They moved into their first home in Mimico, before settling in Lorne Park for the next 65 years. Ralph and Rose happily raised their three children, Mark, Pamela, and Barbara in the Lorne Park area.
Ralph began a successful pharmacy business in 1959. He continued to expand and modernize his pharmacy until his retirement at the age of 70 years.
For 15 years, Ralph served as the CEO of the Lakeshore Area Multi-Services Project Community Health Centre L.A.M.P and once again, inspired by his Uncle Reg, contributed back to the Mimico and Longbranch communities.
Ralph and Rose travelled the globe in retirement. Ralph’s love for sports was endless, and he especially enjoyed watching his Toronto Maple Leafs, Toronto Blue Jays, and Notre Dame football team. Ralph’s passion in his later years was Bridge and one that he continued to study and play until the end of his life.
But his greatest joy of all was spending time with Rose and his children, eventually adding in his beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Together with Rose, he hosted many memorable dinners and parties with members of the Andaloro family and dear friends.
Ralph is survived by his wife Rose, children Mark (Andrea), Pamela (Michael), and Barbara (Shawn), grandsons and granddaughter Adam (Jessica), Tyler (Bill), Devin, Justin (Brittney), and Alana, great grandchildren Hunter, Claira, and Olivia, and many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews of the Andaloro family.
Ralph was preceded in death by his father Regis, mother Helen, and brother Robert.
Ralph will always be remembered for his generosity, sense of humour, devilish smile, and kind soul.
