It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Pius King-Lim Ko, 76, of Mississauga, who, after a very brief fight with pancreatic cancer, departed this world peacefully on February 7th, 2024 at Margaret’s Place Hospice, Hamilton, Ontario with the love of his life, best friend and devoted wife Barbara by his side. Pius was the cherished brother of Philip (Sophia), and the adored brother-in-law of Angela (Lysander), Charles (Jessica) and Dominic (Daria). Pius will be sorely missed by his nieces Kim (Tom), Francesca and Lee, and many loving friends.
Pius was born in Guangzhou on July 5th, 1947, to parents Ko Shing and Lai Shui King. He completed his B.Sc. and PhD in Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong. During his postdoctoral fellow years, he met Barbara, with whom he went on to enjoy 46 years of devoted marriage.
Pius moved to Canada in 1975. After working as a consulting engineer in construction and nuclear sectors, he joined Ontario Hydro where he spent 20+ dedicated years until his retirement. At Ontario Hydro/Ontario Power Generation, he earned a reputation as a reliable and deeply considerate colleague. Some fellow workers became cherished friends and travel companions following his retirement.
Pius enjoyed travelling to different places around the world with his wife and friends, with a constant sense of curiosity and open-mindedness. He was an easy-going and accommodating travel companion. Pius was known for his passion for wine. Alongside his superior ability to savour wine and great appetite for learning, Pius became a true connoisseur and savvy wine collector. Pius was also a man of faith and held his religion in his heart.
Through all his achievements, Pius remained a humble man. His cheerful nature, generous spirit, and kindness made everyone feel instantly welcome. Pius was a considerate man who approached life with principled values. Respected for his professional expertise, and valued for his graciousness, integrity, and his easy sense of humour, Pius will long be remembered as a gentleman and a gentle man.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Margaret’s Place Hospice, where Pius spent his final days.
