It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. Pin Zhen Bi, who passed away peacefully in Toronto on January 28, 2026, at the age of 82.

Dr. Bi was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rongkun, and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Shenshen Bi, his son-in-law, Reade Barber, and his cherished granddaughter, Avery Barber.

Pin Zhen Bi was born on June 22, 1943, in Shanghai, China. His family was originally from Ningbo. The youngest of seven siblings, he grew up with strong family values and a deep sense of responsibility. Throughout his life, he was known for his discipline, resilience, and tireless work ethic—qualities that shaped both his career and the way he cared for the people he loved.

Pin Zhen graduated from Shanghai Weiyu High School in 1962 and later accepted by Fudan University, where he went on to earn a PhD in Physics. He then served as a Professor in the Department of Physics at Fudan University. He studied under Professor Lu Hefu (Hoff Lu) and taught at Fudan’s Institute of Modern Physics. Known for his rigor and integrity, he worked with care and discipline, believing in steady effort and long-term dedication. He published academic research, including:

After retiring, he moved to Canada to be closer to his daughter and family.

As a husband, father, and grandfather, Pin Zhen was not someone who expressed love through many words—his love was shown through actions. He provided, protected, and carried responsibility with steadiness. He was a strict father at times, but always with loving intention: he wanted his family to be strong, capable, and safe in the world. His devotion was practical and constant, and those closest to him knew they could count on him.

In the most defining chapter of his life, Pinzhen became the primary caregiver for his beloved wife after she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. He cared for her with unwavering dedication and endurance, supporting her tirelessly until her passing in 2023.

To Avery, he was a warm and playful grandfather who enjoyed the simple joys of time together—playing cards and chess, and sharing a big ice cream during visits. In those moments, his gentle affection shone in a way that will be remembered forever.

PinZhen’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his strength, discipline, loyalty, and the quiet love he gave so steadily throughout his life.

毕品镇的挚爱妻子 王荣坤 已于先前离世。毕品镇的离去，令家人无比悲痛。他将永远被女儿 申申、女婿 Reade Barber，以及深爱的外孙女 Avery Barber深切怀念。

毕品镇于 1943年6月22日 出生于 中国上海，祖籍宁波， 家中七位兄弟姐妹中最小的一位，自幼便深受家庭观念影响。他一生以自律、坚韧与勤勉著称——对自己要求严格，对责任从不推卸，这些品质贯穿了他的学术事业，也体现在他对家人的守护之中。

毕品镇高中毕业于上海位育中学（1962届）。后考入复旦大学， 获得物理学博士学位，曾任 复旦大学物理系教授。师从卢鹤绂教授。任教复旦大学现代物理研究所。他做事认真，重视原则，相信踏实努力与长期积累。发表学术文章， 包括:

在妻子被诊断患有帕金森病后，他长期承担起主要照护责任，以坚定的意志与无怨的付出，陪伴她、照顾她，直至她于2023年8月离世。这段岁月，是他一生责任与深情最真实的见证。

对外孙女Avery而言，他是一位温暖可亲的外公：一起打牌、下棋，也会在探望时买上一大份冰淇淋分享那份简单的快乐。那些平凡而珍贵的时刻，将永远留在家人心中。

他的离去，在亲友心中留下难以填补的空缺。我们将永远铭记他的坚韧、自律、担当，以及那份寡言却恒久的爱。
