It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Lillian Dawson on August 3rd, 2025 at the age of 78, 2 days shy of her 79th birthday. She passed away surrounded by family. After a long-fought battle of suffering with Osteomyelitis and Vascular dementia she is now free from pain and an angel by our side.
Phyllis was born in Sault Ste, Marie, Ontario and later moved to Toronto. She was the 2nd eldest of 7 children to the pre-deceased Winston & Margaret Dawson. Sister to the late Edward (Jean), late Tom, late Pauline, Brian (Sheila), Janet and late John (Janet). Loving mother to Erika (Silvio) and grandmother also (known as Pata) to Brandyn, Aaron and Natasha, and a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Phyllis’ 3 grandchildren were her world. When Brandyn and Aaron started hockey at the age of 4 and 5, she would make sure she went to all their practices and games and when she couldn’t she would be upset. She even took 3 buses and a subway 1 time to go watch Aaron play hockey in Toronto this is just how much she loved them. And when she couldn’t see very well, she would sit behind the goalie net just so she could see. With her granddaughter, Natasha she insisted in being at her gymnastics just to watch. Phyllis saw a talent in Natasha at a young age and would teach her how to cut hair, and years later this is what she is perusing.
Phyllis not only enjoyed working, but she had played darts and would enter tournaments, this was her entertainment when she wasn’t going to the park for picnics with the grandkids, or getting ice cream or simply hanging out with her daughter’s family. She was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and severed on the ladies’ axillary for many years.
Phyllis was a strong and hard worker, a single mother that had a heart of gold for all people but especially when it came to family. Even when Phyllis suffered a major stroke, she still insisted in working at the age of 71. Phyllis will be greatly missed by many and although her passing has left an empty space in those so close, we know she is in a better place without suffering.
Mom / Pata, you may be physically gone for now but you will forever be alive in our hearts and never forgotten.
