In Celebration of

Peter Luk Ph.D.

November 27, 1946 -  September 28, 2017

With much love and a wealth of memories, we share with you the passing of Peter Luk. Husband of 35 years to Donna, loving father to Jennifer (Alex) and Peter Jr. Beloved son of Bo Wai Wong of Scarborough, brother to Jimmy and his sons Casey and Justin, devoted uncle to the families of nephews Dean (Rachelle), Dylan (Terri), and Darcy (Danielle), loving brother-in-law to Cheryl Irvine and Sandy Vaughan Hastie (Richard). He was predeceased by his father Yue Leung Luk and his Yorktonite in-laws Fred and Carol Hastie.
Peter was born in Peking, China and emigrated to Hong Kong, and spent his high school years in Los Angeles. He relocated to Canada to further his education eventually completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Prince Edward Island, a Master of Business Administration in 1975 in Saskatoon and Ph. D. in Management at age 54 in 2000!
Peter spent the vast majority of his career in academia. He was part of the evolution of Ryerson University where he retired after 27 years of service in 2008 and held various positions in the Faculty of Management, as professor, Director of Student Affairs, and Associate Dean. He capped off his illustrious career as Dean of the Faculty of Management at Laurentian University in Sudbury from 2008 to 2013 and in special assignments from 2013 to 2015.
Peter is remembered for living large. He was not afraid to go for it and boy did he go for it. At the age of 58 he realised his goal of trekking to Mount Everest base camp. After that time he was diligent in maintaining a healthy and fit lifestyle until his cancer diagnosis. He was a first generation immigrant, had a broad and diverse group of friends, and a passionate lover of horses and horse racing until the time of his death.
Based on Peter’s wishes there will be a private family ceremony and a Celebration of Life to follow at a later date.
