In Celebration of

Peter Louis Martini

April 23, 1933 -  September 30, 2023

Martini, Peter Louis LL.D.

Bravely, but peacefully, on Saturday, September 30, 2023, with family by his side, at Trillium Health Partners, Mississauga, Ontario.

Peter Louis Martini in his 90th year. Beloved “Diamond-in-the Rough” to wife Teresa for 67 years. Dedicated and adored father to Linda Riddoch (Brad), Sandra Kosec (Frank), Philip (Jacquie) and Peter. Devoted nonno to Jason, Dana (Jason Smith), Blake, Justin, Lauren (Josh Allan) and Dylan. Great grandfather to Lennox. Brother to Amelia Fantin (Tony) and Rita Artuso (E. Victor 2020).

Born in Toronto April 23, 1933, to the late Alessandro (1986) and Maria (2006) he attended St. Michael's College before joining his father's masonry company. Thus began the career of a serial entrepreneur founding and operating more than twenty-six businesses in North America covering many facets of manufacturing, construction, food service and investment. But his greatest role was as a pioneer in the organization, development and leadership of the Masonry Industry in Toronto, Ontario and Canada. He was a driving force behind the construction of the Canada Masonry Centre in Mississauga, a founding member of the Canadian Masonry Contractors' Association, the Ontario Masonry Contractors' Association, and the Metropolitan Industrial and Commercial Masonry Contractors. He played a pivotal role in the endowment of the Chair in Masonry Design at McMaster University where they conferred upon him the degree, Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.

But despite all his success in business, he always insisted on putting his family first. A proud Italian Canadian he maintained lifelong ties to the town of his families’ origin – Castelfranco, Veneto. For many years he visited extended family and faithful friends, usually for an entire month, in both spring and fall, proudly bantering in the local dialect. It was where he felt at home, at ease and at peace.

In his honour, please pop a bottle of Prosecco or pour yourself a round of grappa (preferably homemade) to share amongst family and friends with a “salute e cent’anni” even though he fell a few years short of the goal.

Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy 10 N. of Q.E.W) on Thursday from 3-5 & 7-9 p.m.

Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, October 6, 2023 at 11 a.m.

For those who wish, donations may be made to Trillium Health Partners Foundation.

I am heartbroken to hear of the passing of Mr. Martini. He was a kind, generous and welcoming man, who supported, loved and encouraged his family in so many ways.
Peter was always eager and willing to share his home, food, drinks and sense of humour with friends of the family.
When we were teenagers, Mr. M. would give us tickets and drive us to hockey games, concerts and special events. He even drove a few of us to Niagara Falls, NY to see Elvis in one of his black Cadillacs! He was not very happy when we crossed the border back into Canada and they took apart his car searching for who knows what??!!
A few years ago, I was fortunate to spend a week with Peter and Sandra in his hometown of Castelfranco, sharing many meals and lots of Prosecco!
Claude and I send our heartfelt condolences to Teresa, Linda, Sandra, Phillip, Peter, all their spouses and his grandchildren for their loss.
Mr. Martini will be loved and remembered by many.
We raise a glass of Prosecco in his memory! 🍾🥂
Rest in Peace Mr. M. 🕊️🕊️
