In Celebration of

Peter Brown

March 6, 1944 -  December 20, 2016

Peter passed away peacefully at Dorothy Ley Hospice on Tuesday December 20, 2016. Husband of (late) Donna-Jean Brown, Father of Tabitha Brown (Kevin), Marla Bondar (Benje), and Jana Brown and Grandfather to Benjamin, Timothy, Amelia, Dov and Naomi. Brother of Wendy Harrison (David), Uncle to Krista and Daniel.

Peter received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from the U of T (1966) followed by his C.A. designation and worked for the Ontario Ministry of Education as Director of Finance for much of his career. He was the Controller at the Ontario College of Teachers for the years leading up to his retirement.

He was a longtime summer resident at the family cottage on Baptiste Lake and was active with the Cottagers Association. He was also a member of Weston Park Baptist Church in Toronto.

Peter was a trusted advisor to many on both practical and personal matters. His passions were his family, playing piano and listening to music of all kinds, exploring Ontario's wilderness, and his love and commitment to God.

Donations are gratefully accepted to Dorothy Ley Hospice who provided comfort to Peter and his family in his last week and a dignified end to his life.

Tabitha, Marla and Jana:

Your father was one of those very special people - humane, respectful and caring with everyone whom he met. I was very fortunate to know him for almost 20 years at the College of Teachers and then since his retirement as we met for irregular lunches with colleague friends who shared my deep affection for him.

Peter inspired much respect, affection and well-placed fierce loyalty in all of his colleagues. I am sure I speak for many of his friends at the College that we are all the better for having known and been influenced by him.

I hoped we would have many more conversations in the future, and I will sorely miss him. He always spoke with such profound affection for his daughters. I trust that the strength and love passed on to you from both your mother and father support you well in mourning his passing and your future lives.

Our thoughts are with you Tabitha, Marla and Jana on the loss of your Dad.

I enjoyed the regular time Peter and I had together, mainly with coffee, over this past year, and in our discussions, he consistently talked about his supportative daughters.

Ann and I were grateful for the visit we had last Friday at Dorthy Lay Hospice. Peter appeared comfortable and at peace. As he related to me on several occasions, it was where he wanted to be for his last days.

We will miss your Dad, and we send our love to you.

Peter agreed to join the College of Teachers before the Legislation was even passed. As the first Registrar I am forever grateful for his sound advice, hard work and positive attitude in often difficult times.

Peter was a joy to all who knew him at the College. He loved a good laugh & always seemed to be in a good mood. He always greeted everyone with a "good morning", whether it was or not. His good nature & gentle spirit yet remain.

Sending much love and hugs, energy, peace and a quiet sense of stillness to Jana, Marla and Tabitha and families.
We remember Peter for his quiet and gentle spirit, his amazing ability to create music on the piano and his deep and enduring love for his family. He also had a beautiful dry sense of humour and was a welcoming host during festivities at the house.
We miss him as we miss your mom--with love and gratefulness for all they brought to our lives.
Love from Lianne and Warren
