In Celebration of

Oscar Wojtal

January 20, 2001 -  November 16, 2023

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Oscar Wojtal of Toronto, on November 16, 2023 as a passenger of a tragic car accident. A computer scientist, scout camp commander, animal advocate, avid reader and stellar athlete, at 22 years old he lived his life to the fullest. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, quick wit, service, and unconditional love.

Oscar’s presence lit up every room. He became instantaneous friends with anyone he met. Those around him were drawn to his easy-going and fun-loving nature. Oscar always had a smile on his face and was quick to remind those around him to cherish every moment and always see the good in every situation.

Oscar was involved in many initiatives within the community and had countless hobbies. He was a leader in the Polish Scouts Community, specifically the Szeczep Podhale, where he ran camps and numerous leadership activities for boy scouts. Oscar also volunteered his time at an Animal Shelter, where he fostered and rehabilitated dogs.

Most recently, Oscar’s greatest accomplishment came from completing his honours Bachelor’s Degree in Computing at Queen’s University. Oscar thrived during his university years. His innovation and creativity shone through his eagerness to continuously start new business ventures. Oscar was excited to start his working life, and recently got a job in his field. There is no doubt he would have continued to make great strides in his professional life. Oscar was a talented athlete, and enjoyed sharing his love for volleyball, sailing and skiing with his family and friends.

He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends around the world. Oscar was predeceased by his grandfathers, Jan and Stanislaw. He is survived by his mother, Zofia, and father, Tomasz, his grandmothers, Ludwika and Maria, his sister Daria (Lawrence) and brother Patrick (Vanessa) as well as his nephew, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Visitation will be held at Turner & Porter – Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor Street West, Toronto, on Sunday, November 26 at 3-8PM (Prayer Service at 6PM). Funeral Mass to be held at St. Teresa Roman Catholic Church, 100 Tenth St, Etobicoke, ON, on Monday, November 27 at 11AM. Burial at Park Lawn Cemetery to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting the Oscar Wojtal Fund, which will be used to make donations in Oscar’s memory to organizations closest to his heart, such as the Polish Scout Association and Animal Shelters where he volunteered.

Hello,

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Wojtal family. Oscar was a bright, enthusiastic, and valued member of our school community. He embodied all of the values that we hoped to impart on our students at Bishop Allen Academy. He will be missed by his teachers, his peers, and I will remember him with great fondness. God bless!

Regards,
Mr. Connolly
