In Celebration of

Orysia (Irene) Petruck (née Dedeluk)

January 28, 1940 -  July 30, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother and baba, Irene Petruck, on July 30, 2024.

Irene was born in Toronto on January 28, 1940 to parents Pauline (Wowk) and Samuel Dedeluk.

Often citing her children and grandchildren as her biggest achievements, she will be greatly missed by son William Petruck (Lesia), daughter Janet Fanaki (Adam, deceased), grandchildren Alexandra, Mitchell, Isobel, Sam and cousin Natalie Stewart (née Melnychuk) of Strongsville, Ohio.

Her kindness, love, generosity, willingness to help and sense of humor knew no limits. Our cherished memories of her will live on forever.

She made many dear friends that she cherished throughout her life. From her time as a student at Dewson Public School to Western Technical Institute, working for the Toronto District School Board and volunteering for many organizations such as the Ukrainian Women’s Organization of Canada and Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre.

Our personal reporter, her passions included talking about the news, politics, stocks, style, business and pro golf.

She loved watching Jeopardy - no one dared call during that sacred half hour - and she took great joy in being the captain of our family Wordle group.

We would like to especially thank the following medical teams and caregivers: At Sunnybrook, Dr. Lisa Chodirker, K3C, Dr. Naushin Walji and the Palliative Care Unit; in-home care from Dorothy Ley Hospice; as well as the compassionate PSWs from Assurance Home Care.

To her dear friends, thank you for your companionship and always lifting her spirits.

Visitation will take place in Toronto on Monday, August 5 from 5:00 to 8:00pm at Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel (2357 Bloor Street West). On Tuesday, August 6 the funeral will be held at 10:00am at St. Demetrius Church (135 La Rose Avenue).

If desired, a donation in her memory can be made to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, St. Demetrius Church or a charity of your choice.

Vichnaya Pamyat.

Dear family of Irene: Our sincere condolences to you on the passing of your dear Irene. I am a cousin of Frank DeTurse and though I live Welland ON, I spent many summers with Frank, his mom and dad and Grandpa Passarello on Roxton Rd. Irene became a good friend of mine too. Even though our paths seldom crossed over the span of so many years, Frank would keep me updated and informed about the friends from "way back then" and especially about Irene with whom he continued to be close friends indeed. May Irene now rest in peace and may the love you shared with her continue to support and sustain you in the difficult days ahead. Most sincerely,

Bryce and Anne Musgrave

I knew Irene as a childhood classmate at UNF Ukrainian School and now as a sister member of OYK. (Organization of Ukrainian Women). Despite serious health problems in recent years, she was a dedicated volunteer to many causes and was always upbeat and smiling. Rest in peace, my friend. ВІЧНАЯ ПАМ'ЯТЬ 🙏
