Olga Kalynowysh

April 3, 1952 - November 21, 2018

It is with profound sadness that the family announces the passing of Olga Kalynowysh of Mississauga who passed away on November 21, 2018, at the age of 66 after a brief illness. Predeceased by her parents Bohdan and Kataryna, her in-laws Harry and Mary, and her nephew Adam. She is survived by her loving husband Wally and children Chrissy, Nina (Thom) and William, and her siblings Ihor (Anne), Irene (Herwig) and their children Ivan and Tessa, and her brother-in-law Bobby and his daughter Demitria. Olga was a beloved teacher, spending many years at Sts. Peter and Paul and St. Philip elementary schools, and most recently at the Museums of Mississauga as an interpreter and at Riverwood Conservancy as a volunteer. Recently retired, Olga enjoyed painting with the Clarkson Society of Artists, hiking, cross country skiing, playing tennis, travelling, practicing yoga, devouring books, and tending to her prolific garden.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 30 at Turner & Porter Funeral Home - Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St, Mississauga from 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm.
A funeral celebrating her life will be held at Turner & Porter Funeral Home - Peel Chapel on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at 11:00 am followed by an interment at St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Brantford’s Participation Support Services (https://www.pssbrantford.org/), an organization important to Olga and her family and where Chrissy, her eldest daughter resides.

Olga was a gifted historical interpreter. Her tone of voice even with the most rowdy students never changed. She would hold their attention and immerse them in a learning experience within minutes. Her sense of humour often produced peals of laughter amongst staff as she would recount something that happened during a program or event.
Olga was at my retirement party Sunday and shared a card with original artwork and her sage advice - 1. Laugh 2. Learn something new each day 3. Be physically active 4. Develop your talents 5. Challenge yourself 6. Eat more fish!
I will keep this card as a reminder of how precious life is and to remind me of a wonderful woman who touched the lives of so many in such a unique way.

I met Olga about two or three years ago on the bus, on a x-country ski outiing. While we never got to know each other deeply, what Olga shared was her love of her family, her garden and the outdoors. She appreciated the beauty, the coldness and the effort of skiing the trails. She spoke softly and seemed a gentle, caring person. I will miss her on the trails this year! Deepest sympathy to her family.
