In Celebration of
Ofei Fleischer-Djoleto
November 3, 1946 -
March 1, 2016
Passed away peacefully, at the Trillium Health Centre in Mississauga, on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at the age of 69. He leaves behind the love of his life, and wife of 44 years, Jill (nee Chatham); his children, Amanor (wife Stephanie); Darku (wife Christine); Lexa (husband Peter); his beloved grandchildren who loved him dearly; Ofeibea, Addae, Jack, Maeve, and Ellis. He also leaves behind cherished family, friends and members of the hospital community. Ofei was born on November 3, 1946 in Accra, Ghana, to Ellis and Vera Fleischer-Djoleto. He graduated from Achimota in Accra, Ghana in 1963. As a teenager, he made his way to McGill University in Montreal to study medicine. Upon completion of his medical studies, Ofei's career took him to Mississauga Hospital where he became a pillar of the medical community as a General Thoracic Surgeon. He loved his work and it is something he would have certainly continued had it not been for his illness. He was one of the lucky ones that was able to do with his life something he truly loved. Ofei was a cerebral and passionate man who possessed an intelligence he never took for granted. It was something he used to save and enrich the lives of many. Whatever he chose to do in life he would embrace as a passion. Whether it was studying medicine, learning to play the guitar, learning to speak Spanish, or learning the game of golf, he sought to not only learn, but master. He enjoyed and appreciated so much in this world. Music, nature and family were but only a few of those things. Those who knew him, whether it be friends, colleagues or students, would be in awe of him. Those he met would come to know him not only as a good man, but as a great man. In his final days, the respect and love he was shown at the hospital by not only long-time friends but by people who had met him briefly was certainly something to behold. A special thank you to the staff at Trillium Health Mississauga for making his final days as comfortable as possible. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter "Peel" Chapel, 2180 Hurontario St., Mississauga (Hwy. 10, N. of QEW) on Friday, from 4 p.m – 9 p.m. Funeral service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Erindale ( 3041 Mississauga Rd., Mississauga) on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Trillium Health Partners Foundation.
