We lost Barry on September 4 at Brampton Civic Hospital to pneumonia.
Barry’s great love … his family from Carol Anne the mother of their two children, Amy Beach and Andy Ebbitt partner Michele. Amy’s husband Robert, their two sons David and Kevin; to Barry’s dear sister Karen Halford (RIP husband Paul Halford), plus his caring stepchildren John Lyall and Margot Pengelly, partner Axel Hussel, children Emily, Neil, partner Kevin and their children. Also niece Heather Halford, grand niece Caylie and grand nephews Dylan and Callum and nephew Stephen Halford. Plus all the friends of Barry’s and of Amy’s like Monica who visited Barry at Woodhall Park and her father Paul; a best friend in days gone by.
In his youth, Barry enjoyed playing lacrosse and in his later years, thrived watching his team The Rock; he and three friends had great seats. Barry never missed a local game.
Barry attended Western University before he became a bank manager with Guarantee Trust. As a bank manager Barry travelled across Canada and visited many cities. While he was away, he would send Amy and Andy postcards to show his love. Barry ended his work career working with the Government for 25 years. He was never late nor never missed a day of work.
Glennis (nee Remel) became the love of Barry’s life…they enjoyed over 25 years of marriage; often going to musicals, listening to music and watching movies together. Barry enjoyed a wide range of music and movies; we all thought of him as the “music man.” He had a deep hope these last years and a strong desire to see again his beloved Glennis. Barry believed a door had opened to heaven.
Predeceased by Glennis 10 years ago Barry was in residence at Woodhall Park due to being wheelchair bound after two broken legs and was under the kind care of mostly incredibly women. A special thanks to Tracy, Deana and Meet and so many more.
Barry enjoyed life and dining such as the Christmas buffet at the Toronto Cricket Skating and Curling Club; his great delight. There was a time when Barry was the life of the party playing the piano and singing. A fond memory for Amy and Andy is the family going to Disney World in their Volkswagen Beetle.
Barry also andored animals. Andy was visiting from Nova Scotia with his two Boston Terriers and Barry was walking them down by the lake when the dogs pulled Barry right into the river tributary! There was no way Barry was letting go of those dogs; so he ended up in the drink.
There is a new star in heaven; may Barry’s laughter bring joy, and may he be reunited with those he loves.
If anyone wishes to make a donation in memory of Barry, please choose a Humane Society of your choice or the War Amps.
Lastly one of his many favourite singers, Louis Armstrong and a song of hope.
