With sadness but enormous pride for a long life well-lived, the family of Nikola (Nick) Pehar announces his peaceful passing on June 15, 2025, at the age of 95, at Ian Anderson House Hospice in Oakville, Ontario.
Born in 1929 in Herzegovina, Nick lived a life defined by resilience, courage, and devotion to family. At 21, he bravely fled communist Yugoslavia, seeking refuge in Italy before ultimately making his way to Canada—a country he would come to love and proudly call home. Zdenka soon joined him in Canada, and they were married in 1955, beginning a lifelong marriage marked by family, business and friendships.
Nick built a successful career as a tool maker, eventually opening his own business, Lennox Tool and Die. His entrepreneurial spirit extended into real estate, where he developed both residential and commercial properties with vision and care. Despite his many accomplishments, Nick remained hard-working and generous, always prioritizing family and friendship.
He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures—vacationing in the Cayman Islands, enjoying time at the cottage on Lake Simcoe, and relaxing at his villa in Florida. An avid fisherman and master of the pig roast and barbecue, Nick took immense pride in bringing people together. Nothing delighted him more than hosting his friends and large family for lively, laughter-filled meals.
Nick is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Zdenka (Gloria), with whom he shared a strong and loving marriage. He is predeceased by their cherished son, Zvonko, and is lovingly remembered by his children Kreso (Julie), Vicky, and Nancy (Marko).
A proud grandfather, Nick leaves behind a legacy of love in his grandchildren: John Ryan (Tina), Erin (Ryan), Ashleigh (Rich), Kyle (Alanna), Brock (Ashley), Jordan (Lilly), and Christian (Allaina). He was also blessed with twelve great-grandchildren—Lilia, George, Chloe, Miles, Emerson, Emily, Nathan, Travis, Paige, Nolan, Malcolm, and Annika—each of whom brought him immense pride and joy.
Nick will be remembered for his unwavering dedication to family, strength, and the powerful stories of his journey that inspired all who knew him. His life is a lasting testament to perseverance and determination.
