It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nikola Brodar, who peacefully left us after a long and difficult battle with Mesothelioma on October 27th, 2025, in Mississauga, Ontario, at the age of 81.
Born on August 27, 1944, in Rakov Potok, Zagreb, Croatia, Nikola lived a life filled with love, laughter, music, and devotion to his family.
In 1960, Nikola left his beloved Croatia to create a better life for himself. Throughout his journey, he met his beautiful wife Mira, and together they built a life filled with love and perseverance. After welcoming their first child, Elisabeth, they bravely left Germany in the late 1960s, traveling by boat to Canada in search of a brighter future. Their courage and hard work laid the foundation for the strong, loving family they built together.
Nikola worked hard throughout his life as a taper in the construction industry, known for his strong work ethic and craftsmanship. Outside of work, he found joy in singing as a member of The Canadian Croatian Choral Society, proudly celebrating his heritage through music. He was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and loved watching a good action movie, often with his family by his side.
Nikola was the beloved husband of Mira Brodar, his partner in life and love.
He was a proud and dedicated father to Elisabeth Nejasmic (Jozo), Niki Piplica (Angelo), Stephen Brodar (Sandy), and Veronica Špehar (Anthony). His greatest joy came from his cherished grandchildren: Luka Piplica, Nikolina Nejasmic, Mateo Piplica, Sofia Brodar, Viktoria Brodar, Niko Brodar, Karlo Špehar, Dario Špehar, and Angelina Špehar.
In his final months, Nikola was surrounded by the unwavering love and care of his devoted wife, Mira, his children, and grandchildren. The family was also deeply supported by his beloved brother-in-law, Ivo Sorić, and his wife, Bernice, whose presence brought immense comfort and strength during this difficult time.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Jordan Doherty, Oncologist, and the dedicated nursing staff at Trillium Health Partners; the Spectrum Palliative Care team; and Dr. Kelly Le and the team at Dorothy Ley Hospice for their compassion, kindness, and exceptional care throughout Nikola’s end-of-life journey.
Nikola will be remembered for his kindness, his sense of humour, and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He touched the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
