In Celebration of

Nick Rubashewsky

January 1, 1925 -  July 30, 2016

Peacefully, on Saturday, July 30, 2016, surrounded by his family, at the age of 91. Beloved husband of Emily for 65 years. Loving father of Bohodar (Viola). Proud grandfather of Mykola. Nick served with the 1st Ukrainian Galician Division, fought and was injured in WWII and remained active in the Veterans Association. He was a senior scout leader with PLAST for almost 30 years beginning in 1947, the same year he came to Canada, where he met his wife, Emily, in Hamilton. Nick worked as a plant supervisor with Essex Packers and Jadee Meat Products, where he retired as plant superintendent in 1992. He remained faithful to the Ukrainian Catholic Church and active in the parish committees of Holy Spirit in Hamilton and St. Mary’s in Grimsby, where he was president of the parish council. Nick and Emily moved to Toronto in 2011, where he continued his love of gardening and landscaping, but he was first and foremost a loving and devoted grandfather to his only grandson. Special thanks to Dr. Peter Sakuls and to all the staff at Mount Sinai Hospital and Toronto Grace Health Centre who attended to his care. Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of Jane subway, on Thursday, from 6 – 8:30 p.m., with prayer service (Panachyda) at 7:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Demetrius Catholic Church, 135 LaRose Ave., Etobicoke, on Friday, August 5, 2016, at 10 o’clock. Interment St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Oakville. In lieu of flowers, donations in Nick’s memory may be made to either the Canadian Cancer Society or to The Guardian Angels Ukraine Project.

Dear Family, Please accept my sincere sympathy. In the early 1960's Mr. And Mrs . Rubashewsky travelled to St. Catharines each week to help us as we started a new Plast group. They are fondly remembered. Many of us , and our children are still members of Plast and we thank them for starting us off so well. Vichnaya Pamyat

Dear Emily, Bohodar, Viola and Mykola,
We send out to you our warmest thoughts and love at this difficult time. Nick was truly a one-of-a-kind man and we will truly miss him. We will in particular, no doubt, think of him very fondly - and will smile - each time we drive up to Mabin or spend time in Bohodar and Viola's lovely garden. With warmest regards, John, Sandy, Bronte and Kalan
