It is with Great sadness that we mourn the passing of Mama, Baba, PraBaba (Greatgrandmother). Nadia Melnyk (Moskalenko Nadia Ivanovna).

Born October 7, 1925, in Uspenka, Lutuhyne Raion, Luhansk Oblast, Donbass Region, Ukraine. Nadia grew up in Eastern Ukraine in a loving Ukrainian Christian family to parents, mother Melania, and father Ivan, growing up with her older sister Luba and younger brother Paul. Nadia was surrounded by a large extended family. Maternal paternal Grandparents. Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins. Nadia had a warm, kind nature. Was strong-willed and sometimes mischievous with a pleasant happy demeanor and disposition. An advocate for any righteous cause and always ready to lend a hand to help anyone who needed her. Enjoyed sports as a young child, outdoor activities. Enjoyed learning, telling stories, writing poetry, music, singing, and dancing. At age 14 her life changed with the onslaught of WW2. Hardship fell upon her. Having a strong belief in God and always believing that “God will guide her and keep her safe”. In 1946 Nadia had been fortunate to somehow be trained as a Frontline First Aid Nursing sister. Nadia found herself in Italy then travelling on through to England with Ukrainian, Polish Army personnel, WW2 Displaced People and Families. During this time Nadia met her beloved husband Stefan Melnyk. In 1948 Nadia and Stefan married and started their life together in England. Finding employment working at the Aldershot Hospital. Nadia and Stefan were blessed with two daughters Vera and Elizabeth. In 1957 Nadia, Stefan, and their daughters immigrated to Montreal, Canada to be closer to family. Nadia and her husband worked hard together to provide for their family. Nadia and Stefan became active members of the Ukrainian Montreal community. As parishioners of Holy Ghost Parish. Nadia sang in the Church choir. For 35 yrs Nadia became a long-standing active member of the Ukrainian Сatholic Womans League, (UCWL, Holy Ghost Parish branch) An active member of the Ukrainian Youth Association (UYA Mtl. Branch) Assisted for many years, volunteering as a Camp Nurse (Verkhovyna Chertsey, Quebec) After living in Montreal for many years, in 1990 Nadia & her husband Stefan made the decision to move to Toronto to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Nadia so enjoyed seeing her five Grandchildren grow up. Sharing with them many precious moments. Sharing her stores. Her journey in life. Passing to them her wisdom. Always instructing them to be strong. To never be afraid to face the unknown. To believe in themselves. To study hard and become “a somebody.” To always stay together as a family and be there for each other. To have faith, trust in God and he will guide them in life’s journey. Doroha Mama, Baba, PraBaba you are missed by us all. Forever and always in our hearts. Your loving family - daughters Vera, Liza, son-in-laws Daniel and Michael, grandchildren Larissa (Caleb), Thomas (Kasia), Simon (Dina), Marta (D’Arcy), Katarina, great-grandchildren Meeka, Maisie, Aluki, Desmond, Aiden, Leo, nephews, and family in Calgary, Ukraine, England.

Dear Vera & Liza, your dear husbands, Daniel & Michael & all your dear children, grand & great grandchildren too! Please accept my deepest sympathy, heartfelt prayers & fondest memories of your Dearest & most Loving & Caring Mother, Grand & Great Grandmother, Vasha Doroha Mama, Baba & Pre Baba, Nadia ( Nadiya ) Melnyk! On a more personal note, I’ll always remember & cherish the warm & wonderful welcomes & vibrant visits with your Dear Mother, Grand & Great Grandmother who always engaged my visits & presence so joyfully with her own loving presence while still sharing the strength & the depth of her own views, convictions & feelings of whatever mattered most to her at the time too but which generally always wound up being her great Pride & Joy in her grandchildren & the loving caring relationships she so cherished with all of them too! She also shared with me how much she appreciated the love & support of her wonderful daughters & that of their husbands, the two sons she gained through marriage to her loving daughters, Vera & Liza too! Pani Melnyk to me was a marvel because she was the epitome of Great Peace, Joy Contentment & Appreciation embodied in such Energy, Excitement, Vibrancy , Determination & Fearlessness too! But most of all I remember how Pani Melnyk just radiated whenever she spoke about her dear grandchildren who were her Stay & her absolute Joy in life but who also helped her so much to overcome the great sorrow she endured at the loss of her beloved husband, Stefan, too! So now her Joy is complete & her “ Cup doth runneth over with Love” for she is now reunited in Christ with all her Beloved family & friends there too! But at the same time I know that Pani Melnyk also continues to watch & pray diligently together with her beloved husband, Stefan, over & for all their loving family who continue their journey here in this life as well too & that many blessings of Peace, Love, Joy & Great Health will be granted in this life to all their family awaiting God’s Abundant Blessings of Comfort & Joy too! And to Pani Melnyk an Eternal Thanks, for sharing so much of your Family Joy with me & May God continue to Bless your Family here on Earth & help them all to discover as my own Dearly Beloved Husband, Deacon Paul, both discovered & proclaimed to all too, that his strength was always “ In The Joy of The Lord!” And may this Joy wash away every tear and turn your tears into dancing in the Beautiful, Blessed, & Eternal Memory of your beautiful, courageous, caring & loving Mother, Grand & Great Grandmother, Nadia, too!
