In Celebration of

Murray David Johns

October 3, 1954 -  January 4, 2018

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Predeceased by his mother, Gertrude June Johns (nee Douglas) and his father, Roger Wellington Johns. Survived by his loving and devoted wife Tammy Johns (nee Townson), daughter Katelyn Iveson (Tyler) and son Daniel. Treasured brother to sister Heather (Edward) and brother Douglas (Yvonne). Cherished uncle to his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Murray’s radio career spanned 30 years from sales to senior management for several of Canada’s top broadcasters.

He was known for his sense of humour, incredible ear for music, love of all things golf and his enduring encouragement and support of his kids in all aspects of their lives. Thankfully we have a lifetime of “Murrayisms” to keep us laughing.

A memorial service will be held at at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, 4933 Dundas St. W. at Burnhamthorpe, on Saturday January 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. Visitation beginning at 10 a.m. If desired, donations to the Alzheimer Society of Toronto or the Canadian Transplant Society would be appreciated.

I have many fond and great memories of Murry, I grew up across the street from him. Growing up he was four years my senior ,but Murray, always took the time to have conversations and talk to me like I was the same age as him.
My most fond memories was assisting him detail his Ford Van in his driveway in the 1970,s. I will miss you.
May God Bless you, My good Friend and neighbor.

Often Murray and I were pitted against each other as Retail Sales Managers: CFRB verses CKFM at Standard Radio. Most typically, all in good fun. "Steak or Beans" comes to mind, but the one event which was so memorable was the 'Combo Sailing Event'. Murray and I each 'commanded' a 36 foot sailboat out on Toronto harbour and around the island. The VERY competitive start saw us nearly crashing the two boats! Heart stopping to be sure. Murray wanted 'the WIN' badly and showed his good nature and team skills in this social event and of course..... won the newly minted trophy. Miss you man!
