Muriel Caroline Morgan
April 28, 1921 - February 3, 2015
May the Lord lift up the light of his Countenance upon you and give you peace. - Numbers 6:26.
Muriel peacefully departed her earthly abode for her heavenly home on February 3, 2015, age 93. The daughter of Henry Erickson (Ludington, Michigan) and Kate Riley (Toronto, UEL), and sister of the late Margaret Evans (Ian). Loving wife of her husband of 72 years, the late Dr. E. Laurie Dennison Morgan. Cherished mother to her five children, Bruce (Tonia), Scott (Ruth), Heather (John Hall), Brenda (Myles Casey) and Kathryn (Terry Wheeler). Will be missed by her loving grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews in Canada, the USA and the UK.
Muriel’s passing is a loss to her close knit family, but a blessing to her and to all who knew her deep spiritual commitment. Happily, we acknowledge she is now resting in peace with her Maker.
Muriel was born in Toronto and attended Riverdale Collegiate Institute, which Laurie also attended. After secretarial training and working in the optometry field, in September 1943, she and Laurie married. Muriel and Laurie renewed those vows in September, 2013 in celebration of the 70th wedding anniversary.
Returning to Toronto after the War, Muriel and Laurie worked at establishing his medical practice in Swansea and raising a family. Despite life-long constraints resulting from a serious car accident in 1949, she participated in all aspects of community life and church. Muriel was an inspiration to all her wide circle of acquaintances, drawing friends from many disciplines: scholastic (York), workplace (Downtown Church Workers), camp (Pioneer), neighbourhood (Swansea Historical Society), and church (St. Olives, St. Mathias, Church of the Messiah). Muriel’s faith and love of God resonated throughout her life as a mother, teacher, leader, and colleague in all aspects of her endeavours.
She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Special thanks to her loving Calacare caregivers (Julie Wilding, Shaleyne Peterkin, Donna Sinclair, and Nat), her CCAC support (Fiona Martins and Vladimir), Dr. David Swartz (Dorothy Ley Hospice), the family's palliative guide and hero, and Dr. Muriel Henderson, long-time friend and physician.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W., at Windermere, east of the Jane Subway, on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 2 p.m. till the time of the Service to be held in the Chapel at 3 p.m. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Church of the Messiah.
