In Celebration of

Manuel Carreiro

May 25, 1950 -  May 25, 2020

Manuel “Manny” Gravito Carreiro of Mississauga ON passed away peacefully at his home in the early hours of May 25, 2020 at the age of 70 years young. He was surrounded by the love of his family.

Born in Sao Miguel, Portugal, to Manuel Carreiro and Maria Dos Angos Carreiro , Manuel was the second youngest of 6 children. In 1969, he met his wife, Maria, with whom he would go on to share 45 years of marriage. In 1974, Manuel and Maria moved to Canada to start and raise their family of 3 children; Nancy, Diane and Andrew.

Manuel worked for 40 years as a Lead Mechanic at Welded Tube of Canada in Conord, ON where he was highly respected for his unrelenting work ethic and his ability to quickly and effectively problem solve. He retired in 2015.

A devoted father and grandfather, Manuel adored his family and doted over the achievements of his children and grandchildren. He could often be found cheering on his grandchildren at a soccer game or immersing himself in projects around his home and garden.

Friends and Family will most notably remember Manuel for his affectionate sense of humour, appreciation for hard work, and his insistence of always putting the needs of others ahead of his own.

Manuel is survived by his beloved wife Maria de Fatima Carreiro; his loving children, Nancy Omrani (wife of Afshin Omrani), Diane Verzini (wife of Anthony Verzini), Andrew Carreiro; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryan, Shyon, Alessio, Massimo and Vanessa.

Manuel will be laid to rest at Assumption Catholic Cemetery on Friday May 29 with a limited number of immediate family members in attendance due to restrictions in place to limit capacity and encourage physical distancing.

The family would like to thank the incredible team of doctors at Credit Valley Hospital as well as the compassionate nurses and staff with CarePartners for all their help and support over the last few months.

My grandfather cannot be described in words. His loving, caring, unselfish, and humble self helped me through life and set such an amazing example for me and i know for many others as well. Hearing this news has hurt me more than words could ever describe. He never wanted to see the family hurt, worried or saddened; always made sure we were ok before he himself was. “Hi Vavô, everything ok?” he would always reply “Ya ya everything is ok”. Never thought twice when it came to his family and loved ones, he always was there for them and always put their needs in front of his own. He loved every single person in his family and circle and made sure that they were aware. I will never forget the moments we shared and i will never forget the smile he put on my face everyday when i spoke with him. I miss him already as it was just the other day i was talking with him, i will miss the laughs, the smiles and the tears but i know he will never, ever be gone and i know he will always be watching me from up above, cheering me on through life, supporting me when i’m down, and celebrating my success. He will always be right by my side and i’m sure of it. He is in peace now and is in a better place where God will care and love him. May you walk up to heaven on those beautiful white stairs and know that i will make you proud. May you truly rest in peace vavô. I love you forever.

My dear uncle,

Thank you so much for all the affection and love you showed me as a child. All of my fondest memories of you are of you taking me places, getting me out. Car rides, parks, McDonald's. I know I wasn't an easy child, but it never stopped you from giving me your time and you never made me feel bad for being a mischievous boy and you always, always made me feel safe.

You have given me so much over the years, but of all the things you have given me, my most cherished gift from you was your time. You will never be forgotten.

May you rest in peace.

Your loving nephew,

Steven

Meu querido tio,
