Passed away the Credit Valley Hospital on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the age of 91 and in his 68th year of the priesthood. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 15, 1958 for the Diocese of Angra, Portugal. Monsignor Resendes was Chaplain to the Portuguese Community in Mississauga from 1975 to 1978, and then the founding Pastor of Ss. Salvador do Mundo Parish. As the Portuguese community grew in Mississauga, he then became the founding Pastor of Cristo Rei Parish. He retired in 2010 and was in residence in Mississauga.

Much loved brother of the late Teresa Luisa, Filomena, Teofilo, Francisco, and Rosa. Loving uncle of Laura, Teresa, Ana, Norberto, Luis, Eduardo, Lucy; Eduardo, Walter, Humberta, Teresa; Grace, George; George, Rosa; Edward; and the late Gabriel and Rosa. He will be fondly remembered by his numerous great nieces and great nephews.

Visitation will be held at Ss. Salvador do Mundo Church, 1212 Melton Drive, Mississauga on Thursday, January 8, 2026 from 6 – 9 p.m. and at Cristo Rei Church, 3495 Confederation Parkway, Mississauga on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 2 – 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Cristo Rei Church, 3495 Confederation Parkway, Mississauga, on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at 10:30 a.m., followed by entombment at Assumption Cemetery. In honour of Monsignor Resendes, memorial donations may be made to Ss. Salvador do Mundo Church.
