In Celebration of

Mike (Mićo) Štefanac

June 1, 1932 -  October 28, 2019

Mike (Mićo) Štefanac passed away peacefully in his sleep at Credit Valley Hospital on Monday, October 28th, 2019 due to a heart attack. Mike's death has shattered the hearts and lives of his cherished family, and shocked and saddened many dear friends of his. He leaves behind the love of his life Caroline Dragica. He was a precious Tata to his four children: two daughters Michelle Štefanac and Peggy Chandler, and he was a precious step-father "stepi" to Lilli Franković (Michael), and Joseph Škrak (Nadia). Adored grandfather to Jeffrey (Sharlene) and Jennifer (Brian), and adored "Deda Mićo" to Oliver, Karolina, Mila, and Nikola. Loving great grandfather to Emma and Cameron.

Mićo was the youngest of 5 siblings whom he has joined, Dora, Ivan, Pero and Kata, along with his late parents Mijo and Ljuba Štefanac. Treasured best friend to his late sister Kata Kušan and "svak" Drago. Dearest Ujo to his two nieces in Canada, Marica Belavić (Petar) and Ankica Jurinić (Marijan). Valued son-in-law of late Marica and Vid Ivačko. He will be lovingly remembered by all his family and friends both in Canada and Croatia.

He left his birthplace of Brajak Brdo, Karlovac, Croatia and immigrated to Canada in 1957. He enjoyed helping as many people as possible to find work and employed many, including a lot of Croatians. This was shown in many of his respected work positions including a foreman at Chubb Security and owner of his businesses M.S Security Products Ltd. and M.C Industries. He was a tool and dye machinist and worked with custom metal fabrications. He had a wide range of work throughout Canada, most of which included jail doors in detention centres, vaults for banks, and many custom jobs involving measurements, blueprints and creating his own sketches. Mike worked until the end and truly will be remembered by all his employees and co-workers as the epitome of an intelligent, innovative, committed hard worker that was always ready to lend a helping hand to others. His work ethic was truly admirable.

When Mike took a break from working, he and his wife shared a soulful passion for music, and took every opportunity to sing, play the accordion, and dance at social gatherings. If they were not dancing, they were working in and enjoying the beauty of their gardens and backyard. He especially took great delight in seeing his crops grow and his flowers bloom. Mike's humour and jokes were only a part of his uplifting presence. His smile and compassionate approach to everyone he encountered brought them comfort in knowing he was an honest and genuine person. He gave people the benefit of the doubt and always saw the goodness in everyone. His peaceful and kind demeanour was reflected in how he treated others. He was deeply respected and adored. Mićo was the president of Croatia Club Karlovac and took pleasure in contributing to his community in any way he could. He is considered a pioneer in the Croatian community.

Mićo will always be remembered as a loving, humble, and gentle man who will endlessly be in our hearts and forever missed. His presence was a light that everyone wanted to be a part of. The world lost a piece of sunshine when we lost our Mićo. As people enter Karlovac Park, they will always be reminded of Mićo as they drive through the steel gates that he made. Now, it is his time to enter God's gates of Heaven. We All Love You So Very Much. Počivaj u miru Božjem moj premili Tatica i naš dragi Mićo.

For many years Mike would come to the Oakville Campus of Sheridan College to do all sorts of metal repairs. He was always cheerful, courteous, and despite his advancing years, I was impressed to the end by the quality of his work. He may be gone now, but when I walk around this campus, I see the legacy of his work everywhere. He will be remembered with respect and fondness.
