It is with a heavy heart we announce the peaceful passing of Michael Charles Prudhomme on April 24, 2024, at the age of 77, surrounded with the love of Lois and his girls who were by his side.
Michael was a devoted husband to Lois; a loving father to Julie Folch and her husband Pat Gibbon, Amanda and her husband William Shadwick; and a proud Grandpa to Michael and Poppa to Leila. He was a cherished brother to Charlotte; Jimmy, his wife Lyse; Mary, her husband Dan; and a respected brother-in-law to Enid, her husband Gary; and sister-in-law Heather. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his parents Barrett and Janet Prudhomme, in-laws Russell and Gladys Hay, beloved brother Stephen Prudhomme, and dear brother-in-law Al Hay.
Born on February 26, 1947, in Belleville, Ontario, Michael's early years were marked by adventures in Michigan, France, and Ottawa. After graduating from the University of Ottawa in 1969, he married Lois whom he met during their high school years while working at Loblaws. Together they enjoyed a beautiful marriage that spanned 54 years filled with love and countless cherished memories.
Michael dedicated 35 years to the Royal Bank of Canada, where he was highly regarded for his ability to network and build strong relationships with clients. His career took him from Montreal to Ottawa, Richmond Hill, Mississauga and Toronto, before culminating in a role managing the Commercial Banking Centre in Nassau, Bahamas, where he retired in 2004.
Michael often commented, his final 10 years in Nassau, where he made many long lasting friendships, was the highlight of his career.
A man of warmth and wit, Michael will be remembered for his laughter and tales from his banking days, Bramblewood Lane, and Nassau. An avid golfer, Michael enjoyed countless rounds on various courses, most notably with his wife Lois and many dear friends at Hidden Lake. He loved to dance, especially with Lois to their favourite song, "My Blue Heaven" by Frank Sinatra. A lifelong reader, he cherished the quiet moments spent with a good book and sharing stories and insights with those around him.
Michael was a strong believer in giving back to the community. He was a member of Richmond Hill Lions Club, served as Chairman of Peel Region Crime Stoppers and was a past Rotarian of the Nassau East Rotary Club where he received the Paul Harris Fellow recognition.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Oakville Hospital Foundation. We are very grateful to the hospital's doctors, nurses, and staff who provided exceptional care to him and our family.
A celebration of his life will be held on June 28th from 4 to 7pm at Piper's Heath Golf Club where we will share stories and honour the memory of a remarkable man.
Michael's departure leaves a void in our lives, but his spirit will forever enrich those who had the privilege of knowing him.
