In Celebration of

Michael Layton

April 25, 1943 -  June 17, 2018

It is with great sadness that we regret to announce the passing of Michael Layton. Michael, 75, died Sunday, June 17, 2018 at the Credit Valley Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Mississauga following a courageous battle with leukemia. He leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Angeline (nee Dugas) Layton; his son, Douglas Marc Layton and wife Amanda D’Arcy Layton-Malone; his son, Charles-Francois Layton and wife Molly Rae Layton; his beloved grandchild Chase Alexander Layton; and many close friends. Born in Budapest, Hungary, the son of Douglas and Elizabeth Layton (Ladanyi), the family immigrated to Canada in 1950. In his early years, he was an enthusiastic collector of sports cards, a pastime that led him to become a lifelong fan of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and New York Rangers. After graduating from Loyola High School in Montreal, Quebec, he attended McGill University, graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He met his beautiful wife, Angeline Dugas, in 1970 and they were married two years later at St. Kevin’s Holy Catholic Church. His first son Douglas Marc was born in 1974, and his second son, Charles-Francois, was born in 1976. During this time, the family moved to Mississauga, Ontario, where Michael resided for the remainder of his life. For 30 years, Michael proudly served the Canadian Federal Government as a Certified General Accountant. He had a passion for travel which he shared with his wife, visiting numerous locales throughout the world. An avid bridge player and instructor, he was a long-time member of the Mississauga-Oakville Community Bridge Club where he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his wife and fellow players.

Friends may call at Turner & Porter ‘Neweduk-Erin –Mills’ Chapel, 1981 Dundas St. W., Mississauga (east of Erin Mills Pkwy), on Friday, June 22, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church with a burial to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada at http://www.llscanada.org/.

I am very sorry to learn of Michael’s passing. We knew each other at Loyola High School in Montreal and re-connected at OSFI years later. Over the past 13 years since we retired Michael would often arrange lunches for his OSFI colleagues.
Michael will be missed by all who enjoyed his company. Our thoughts are with his family.
