In Celebration of
Michael Kamino
July 22, 1953 -
March 27, 2018
Mike Kamino passed away at 5:05 AM on March 27th with his family by his side. He had spent the afternoon before with his brother, brother-in-law, and nephew jamming in his brother’s basement tackling Beck’s Bolero, among other songs, before they joined his wife, sister, and sister-in-law for Chinese food. If he knew it was his last day, he might well have chosen to spend it just that way.
He was so loved by his wife and soulmate, Lori, his brother Robert (Penny), sister Brenda (Scott), nephew Rory (Amber), and will be missed by his aunts, cousins and other family, as well as many, many friends with whom he played and created music over his 50 year career.
Mike was as fine a musician as you will ever meet, recording five original albums, playing in bands starting with Schroeder, Columbus, Robert E. Lee and the Brigade, as well as a multitude of duos, trios and solo gigs. In 2008 he was thrilled to be asked to play bass with his favourite band, Nucleus, when they re-formed for a reunion concert.
You couldn’t help but like Mike. He had a warm smile and a contagious laugh. He loved monarch butterflies and dinosaurs, but more than anything he loved his family, his friends and playing music.
Friends may call at the Turner & Porter Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St. W. (East of the Jane subway) on Thursday from 7 - 9 P.M. and on Friday from 2-4 & 7-9 P.M.
