Dr. Michael Ivan Haluk

February 10, 1940 -  April 28, 2018

Dr. Michael Ivan Haluk, P.Eng, 78, passed away on Saturday, April 28th, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario of a sudden heart attack. He was born in Dubivci, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine on February 10th, 1940. He left his native Ukraine in 1944 at the height of the Second World War, with his beloved parents. They traveled under the harshest of conditions to Hamburg, Germany. In 1946 Michael immigrated as a child with his parents to Sudbury, Ontario, where they lived for thirteen years. Michael’s parents then moved with him to the Bloor West Village area of Toronto where he commenced his engineering studies at the University of Toronto (U of T). Michael was an avid learner and he graduated with a PhD in Chemical Engineering from U of T in 1970. He worked for CIL, the University of Toronto, and for other companies in the field of chemical engineering. He was a member of the Professional Engineering Association of Ontario and wore his iron ring with pride. He was active in the Ukrainian Canadian church, the Ukrainian National Federation and his local community. He enjoyed fishing in the great Canadian outdoors, he was a fervent boxing fan, and he kept abreast of all world issues. His beloved father, Ivan Haluk, preceded him in death. His beloved mother, Anna Maria Haluk, 96, survives him. He cared for her with all of his heart and might until his final passing. He is also survived by his two sons, Myron and Mark Haluk, his daughter in law Elena Haluk, and his grandchildren, Alexander, Timothy and Marie Haluk, as well as his close companion, Katerina Evanoff-Tingley. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Visitation for all will take place on Thursday, May 3rd, 2018 from 7 to 9 pm, with a Panakhyda at 8 pm, at the Turner and Porter Funeral Home, Yorke Chapel, 2357 Bloor St West, Toronto, tel # 416-767-3153. A Funeral Rite will take place on Friday, May 4th, 2018, at 10:30 am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God, 30 Leeds St, Toronto. Interment will follow at approximately 12:30 pm at the St. Volodymyr Cemetery, 1280 Dundas St W, Oakville. Lunch will be served at the St. Volodymyr Cultural Centre (same address) immediately after the interment. All are welcome.
