It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Merwyn Machado, who died surrounded by his loving family on the morning of March 26, 2026.

Born in Mangalore, India, Merwyn was the seventh of eight children born to Joyce and Frederick Machado. The family migrated to the beautiful state of Goa, Merwyn’s cherished home where he grew up and studied. As a young adult, Merwyn moved to Bombay where he continued his education and began his lifelong career in travel.

His career would bring Merwyn to Muscat, Oman, where he and his wife, Lucia, welcomed their children, Jairus and Melanie. The family relocated to Canada in 2000, where Merwyn would express his adventurous spirit through his work as a travel agent.

Merwyn’s wonder for the world and its cultures was evident through his passion for travel and exploration, gardening and cooking, music and literature, and of course, soccer.

A loving father, husband, colleague, brother, cousin, and friend, Merwyn will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Merwyn was predeceased by his parents and beloved siblings, Michael and Marina. He is survived by his loving wife, Lucia, and children, Jairus (Katrina) and Melanie. He is also survived by siblings Blossom (Edwin), Margaret, Mariola (Merwin), Pamela (Oswin) and Mario (Franzy), as well as his nieces and nephews.
